Nugent dumps 'Motor City' for Bush Country
AP ^ | December 27, 2004 | By Barry A. Jeckell

The Motor City Madman is officially turning Texan. Ted Nugent, the once Michigan-based rocker and hunting activist, says he plans to get a Texas driver's license soon and will become a Texas resident in 2005. Nugent moved his family to Crawford, Texas, where President George Bush owns a sprawling ranch, about 18 months ago. Nugent says his son Rocco is excelling in school and has done well in sports, and notes that the hunting in Crawford is great, too. "Right behind Rocco's school is game! It's a barbecue dream," he says.

Nugent -- who says he supports President Bush "100 percent" -- says his new home is "right around the corner" from Bush's ranch. Nugent is also working with the Texas fish and game department, where he writes for a state publication on bowhunting. He and his wife have started a "Hunters for the Hungry" program that delivers venison and other game to those who need food, Nugent tells The Jackson Citizen Patriot. The second episode of his VH1 TV series, "Surviving Nugent," was shot last spring in Waco, Texas, not far from Crawford. Nugent says he'll keep his Michigan property in Concord, near Jackson, and rebuild the house next spring, returning for hunting and family events.

Nugent was at his Michigan house during the holidays to prepare for his upcoming touring plans, which as previously reported, include a string of arena dates with country star Toby Keith.

Would the other Bush state be Florida?

Good for Ted. He's more at home in Texas anyway. His wife Shemane should run for Congress IMHO!

Good for Ted. Although, I was hoping he'd run against Granholm for Governor of Michigan next time around.

I think he's a badge carrying deputy (not an honorary one). Wander if he'll join the sheriff's department there.

I'm about ready to do the same thing!

Unless I can be part of fixing this corrupt government in NY.
Things must change!

Many of our "Winter Texans" come from Michigan.

The weather here this week must remind them of home.

If you talk and think like a Texan, it only makes sense to move here.
