Governor Rell is undergoing surgery for breast cancer. Details are still coming out. Caught early after routine mammogram.
Prayers for this valiant warrior in a fight for her life.
Cancer knows no political boundaries.

Glad they caught it early. A speedy recovery will be in our prayers.
Hope they caught it in time and that she stays healthy. Undoubtedly there will be comparisons to former CT Governor Ella T. Grasso, who resigned from the governorship twenty-five years ago due to poor health, and died from cancer shortly thereafter. I don't put it past the Democrats from using this as part of a whispering campaign to either suggest that Rell should resign (for her health, of course), or to imply that she either should not run for election when her term expires, or else that she is not fit to be elected because of health problems. The Dems have certainly used Dick Cheney's history of heart problems as a political club to hammer him with, and I would expect nothing less here.

Absolutely, Knute. My MIL lost her battle with breast cancer last year at the age of 56. Actually caught it before it was visible in any mammograms. She fought it for two years. Horrible, horrible stuff. No one deserves to go through it.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to anyone going through it.
My thoughts and prayers are with Gov. Rell and her family. It appears that the cancer was detected very early and there was not lymph node involvement.
I had a lumpectomy just a few years ago at the young age of 20, and although my tumor ended up being benign, it is very scary to be faced with the possibility of breast cancer.
Please, Freepers - encourage the women in your lives to get the appropriate screenings, and to have any suspicious lump checked out.
Latest word is that Gov. Rell will make a full recovery.
