Enough time has passed, and I will be pretty vague about details, but this policy/tactic has worked well in the Stans for several years. It got off to a slow start due, in a major part to a lack of language people, and a strong prejudice for following the antiquated 20th century 'rules of war'. It has been difficult to find the people with, at least, four or five language skills, and who want to walk on the wild side. But a combination of benefits and talent searching has been paying off quite well. And the Bush administration has clearly, de facto, changed the rules that we(not they) operate under.
Case in point, a friend of a friend came home for a vacation a while ago. The mission is 'bear hunting' abroad, probable the Stans. This is, to my understanding, similar to the way that the Canadians handled the native tribes, not going after all of a tribe in a war, just going after a particular 'badass'. Our people are small groups on the ground, supported by interpreters for up to eleven languages or dialects. The rules are that if someone, over 'there', aids, abets, or incites violence directed toward Americans or our allies, they will be found and killed. No lawsuits or Miranda, no shock and awe, no embedded media. This policy, though slow, has been working well, getting results, seems to have been done in the Stans, and also in Iraq for several months, and, I suspect, by extension, several other areas as well.
With the understanding that we will get hit again, and the acknowledgment that unintended consequences may occur, I am more optimistic than many, that the unprecedented Afgan elections will hold, and the upcoming Iraqi elections will hold. After the second attack on the WTC, I personally have discounted any concerns about inciting OBL/AQ. My opinion is that they are going to try to destroy the West and establish the Caliphate, by attacking anyone, by any means, at any time or place. They(both the 'moderate Moslems', and the AQ groups) should be concerned about inciting us. ExSoldier, your posts and experiences and current efforts are appreciated and respected. Thank you.

Yah it seems like the fabled PHOENIX PROJECT just kept on rollin' all these years.

Thanks for the compliment, but they always seem to make me blush and sorta scuff my toe in the dust and say awwww shucks. Which is to say thanks, but I really don't deserve it. There are folks here: Old Sarge, judicial meanz; HipShot; Mossad1967 and MANY others (and I suspect YOU, too) who are truly deserving of all the thanks we can give them for their service prior and current. But....thanks anyway.

A little bit off topic but check this site out!

FREE MILITARY VIDS

I particularly like the following: Helicopter kills, Never Bring a Rifle to a Tank Battle, AND AC130 ops.
