Very interesting link JP. Glad to see you back online.
Once again you are using logic and common sense MamaD. You know where that will get you :-)
Sadly that article could have come from China or N. Korea as well as Iran. I do not understand totalitarianism.
Late last year, the State Department offered $5 million for information leading to the capture of another man believed to oversee Azizi, Mustafa Setmariam Nasar. The al-Qaida operative ran a terrorist training camp in Afghanistan.
With his red hair, fair skin and Spanish citizenship, Nasar is thought to be of high-value to extremist Islamic causes because of his ability to blend in to Western society, a U.S. official said.

Hey Mamadearest, how are ya? No problem for the PM. It was a rather long one- my apologies.
From what i know of the Los Angeles makeup and the other states that border Mexico, I think the amount of illegal immigrants would be baffling if we had real stats. It's sad that the borders are so pourous (sp)?
Im this town, literally there are so many immigrants that can't speak english at all and i just wonder to myself, what customs officer let this person in? French is supposed to be Canada's second language, but if you go to a bank you will find a punjabi speaking teller faster than you will find a french one. Odd eh?
Boggles the mind at times.

Unfortunately they can't provide a "Statesman or Peacemaker" of the week. This must be the best they can come up with.
$50 million could be a whole Iraqi, Pakistinian or Afghan town or village with people living a very good life for many many years to come. Certainly some lone person is more intelligent than to let that kind of money go unclaimed. Sadly, it appears they are either so loyal or so fearful the money appears to be unimportant. What good is $50 million if they send their henchmen after you and your family and your family's family?

I'm now becoming very seriously concerned about you! Say it isn't so....!
So true, i think he is with such close confidants that the chances of someone turning on him is low. 25Million is still a lot of money, and would be for a long time with the same people you mentioned, but when you combine the 'families being killed/tortured' factor, the money depreciates.
There's a thread on FR about Zaquari being captured, the guy claims he has two very reliable sources, one from the gov't and another.
This week is going to pan out very interesting with the elections and all.

4. Attack method.
11/23/04 No real change in the preferred method of choice of AQ which are bombs - the bigger the better. With the exception of 9/11, car/truck bombs have been widely used. However, aircraft are also still in the mix. There are special concerns regarding the use by terrorists of the following types of vehicles:
1. Uhaul type cargo trucks.
2. Gasoline / Propane supply / tanker trucks.
3. Emergency vehicles (ambulances, police cars, fire trucks)
Recently a new twist in the missing crop duster incidents is the potential that they could be used to create a fuel-air explosive (FAE) bomb by spraying fuel over a area and igniting it. This type of explosive is very powerful. Questions remain if a cropduster can carry sufficient amounts of fuel and dispense it in a manner necessary to create the explosive effect or even how large of an area it would effect.

This Travel Warning is being updated to alert Americans to ongoing security concerns in Algeria. This Travel Warning is being reissued without change following a periodic review. The overall security environment remains dangerous, especially in the Sahara regions. However, the situation has improved and the Embassy is gradually lifting the restrictions it has placed on its employees. This supersedes the Travel Warning of July 15, 2004.
The Department of State urges U.S. citizens who travel to Algeria despite this Travel Warning to evaluate carefully their safety and security. Over the past several months, the city of Algiers and its immediate suburbs have recorded a drop in the number of terrorist-associated incidents. However, there are continued security concerns. Random terrorist attacks still occur in rural and remote areas, on public transportation outside the major cities, and in some parts of the country at night. .....snip....

01/18/05 In April, Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge announced that al Qaeda terrorists might strike during this week's presidential inauguration festivities in Washington. The warning was
that terrorists were seeking to launch attacks both during and after the election season.
Nine months later, the threat level has been lowered, and Ridge, speaking at a news conference last week, said there is no evidence of a plot to disrupt President Bush 's inauguration. Previous warnings, Ridge explained, stemmed from threat reports tied to the elections -- not to the inauguration more than two months later.

10. Suspicious Domestic Incidents Not Currently Linked to Specific Terrorism Attempts
01/23/05 Godzilla summary - Boston Dirty Bomb Alert
On Jan 19th, Federal law enforcement officials said they had received a tip Wednesday about an unspecified threat against Boston, and released photographs of the two Chinese men and two women they were seeking. Also associated with the four my media sources were 2 Iraqi illegals were also smuggled across the US-Mexican border. The informant, who was also the smuggler, inferred that the Chinese were chemists and that additional personnel/materials were to be smuggled across the border to support what was interpreted to be a dirty bomb in Boston. A BOLO was issued and the threat caused the Boston Emergency Action Center to be activated. The four Chinese named by the FBI were identified as Zengrong Lin, Wen Quin Zheng, Xiujin Chen and Guozhi Lin. Authorities said none of the names had appeared on previous watch lists of terror suspects. The bureau also released pictures of those four but not of the others being sought.
Questions about the authencity of the tip quickly became apparent as one of the origional four chemists turned out to be a 13 year old. The informant also failed to meet with FBI agents. One leading theory in the case is that the motive for the tip came from the smuggler to exact revenge on the group, perhaps because members failed to pay. Officials have stressed since news of the tip first broke on Wednesday that they doubted the credibility of the terror claims.
The FBI on Thursday, Jan 20th, added the names of nine Chinese people and one other man to the list of those being sought for questioning about a possible terror plot targeting Boston. The names are part of the same anonymous tip that led authorities on Wednesday to announce that they are seeking to question four other Chinese and two Iraqis. The new names bring to 16 the people being sought for questioning. A partial list included one woman was among the nine new Chinese names added: Yu Xian Weng, a woman either 40 or 41 years old. The others were all men: Quinquan or Quiquan Lin, 21; Liqiang Liang, 28; Min Xiu Xie, 27; Xiang or Xing Wei Liu, 22; Mei Xia Dong, 21; Xiuming Chen; Cheng Yin Liu; and Zao Yun Wang. The final name on the new FBI list was Jose Ernesto Beltran Quinones, of unknown age or national origin.
On Saturday, Jan 22nd, one of the 16 people sought for questioning in an alleged terror plot in Boston has been in federal custody for more than two months and has no terrorist connection, the FBI said Saturday. In an announcement posted on the FBI Internet site, officials said that Mei Xia Dong, a Chinese woman, has been at a Homeland Security Department immigration detention facility in San Diego since Nov. 11. The match was made soon after her name surfaced last week as part of an anonymous tip about the possible terror plot. The original information indicated that Dong was a 21-year-old man. Investigators say Dong paid a human smuggler to enter the United States through Mexico and that she came to this country only for economic reasons.
The BOLO is still in effect although the credibility of the terror threat appears to have been decreased with both the passing of the Inauguration and the publicity surrounding the case.
Godzilla analysis - Due to the potential security threat, a poorly supported terror threat was met by wide spread media attention and hype in some circles. The theory that a coyote made the claim for revenge purposes is very likely. Unless something big breaks, this will probably drop well below the media radar screen. However, this incident does point out the weakness of the security of our southern border to the infiltration of terrorists and material for terror attacks.
