The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

WASHINGTON - A terrorist attack on a tanker loaded with liquefied natural gas could cause massive damage a third of a mile away and could send a vapor cloud billowing more than 1.5 miles, government scientists say.

With the the nation clamoring for more natural gas, policy-makers are trying to figure out how to safely import large quantities of liquefied natural gas or LNG.

Our liberal fellow-citizens have never stopped complaining to the Bush Administration about the "horrible" treatment the poor terrorist detainees are receiving at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Here is a standard form letter that the administration should send to each liberal complainer who is filled with concern and sympathy for Taliban and al-Qaeda detainees:


The White House Washington, D.C. - 20016

Dear Concerned Citizen:

Thank you for your recent letter roundly criticizing our treatment of the Taliban and al-Qaeda detainees currently being held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Our administration takes these matters seriously, and your opinion was heard loud and clear here in Washington. You'll be pleased to learn that, thanks to the concerns of citizens like you, we are creating a new division of the Terrorist Retraining Program, to be called the "Liberals Accept Responsibility for Killers" program, or LARK for short.

In accordance with the guidelines of this new program, we have decided to place one terrorist under your personal care.

Your personal detainee has been selected and scheduled for transportation under heavily armed guard to your residence next Monday. Ali Mohammed Ahmed bin Mahmud (you can just call him Ahmed) is to be cared for pursuant to the standards you personally demanded in your letter of admonishment. It will likely be necessary for you to hire some assistant caretakers.

We will conduct weekly inspections to ensure that your standards of care for Ahmed are commensurate with those you so strongly recommended in your letter. Although Ahmed is a sociopath and extremely violent, we hope that your sensitivity to what you described as his "attitudinal problem" will help him overcome these character flaws.

Perhaps you are correct in describing these problems as mere cultural differences. We understand that you plan to offer counseling and home-schooling.

Your adopted terrorist is extremely proficient in hand-to-hand combat and can extinguish human life with such simple items as a pencil or nail clippers. Also, beware that he will bite you, at any given opportunity. We do not suggest that you ask him to demonstrate any of these skills at your next neighborhood meeting.

Remember, Ahmed is also an expert at making a wide variety of explosive devices from common household products, so you may wish to keep those items locked up unless in your opinion, this might offend his sensibilities.

Ahmed will not wish to interact with your wife or daughters (except sexually) since he views females as subhuman and merely a form of property for men. Women are a particularly sensitive subject for him, and he has been known to show violent tendencies around women who fail to comply with the dress code he recommends as more appropriate attire, the "Bhurka." I'm sure the women of your family will come to enjoy the anonymity offered by the bhurka---over time, of course. Just remind them that it is all part of "respecting Ahmed's culture and his religious beliefs" - wasn't that how you originally put it in your list of complaints?

Thanks again for your letter. We truly appreciate it when folks like you, who are so knowledgeable, keep us informed of the proper way to do our job. You take good care of Ahmed - and remember...we'll be watching. Good luck!

WEAPONS CACHES SEIZED

CAMP BLUE DIAMOND, Iraq -- Elements from 1st Marine Division from the I Marine Expeditionary Force detained 17 suspected insurgents and seized several weapons caches today during operations throughout Al Anbar Province.

Among the weapons and munitions destroyed were rocket propelled grenades, small arms, rockets, mortars and material for assembling improvised explosive devices (IED).

The Marines, Soldiers and Sailors of the 1st Marine Division continue to reduce the anti-Iraqi forces’ ability to launch attacks against Iraqi and Multi-National Forces and Iraqi civilians.

IRAQI AND COALITION FORCES CONDUCT RAIDS, CAPTURE INSURGENTS

BAGHDAD, Iraq – Iraqi and multinational forces conducted multiple raids recently capturing insurgents and improvised explosive device materials.

A task force from the U.S. Army’s 82nd Engineers and the 213th Iraqi National Guard captured a suspected insurgent in Kan’an Dec. 27. In an early morning raid the teams surrounded the target house and captured the suspect without incident.

The 204th Iraqi National Guard conducted a joint village engagement in Jayzania, meeting with local villagers, discussed security issues and handed out pro-Iraqi security forces flyers and handbills to the villagers.

On Dec. 29, the 205th Iraqi National Guard captured the brother of an insurgent leader in the Muqdadiyah area. The suspect, Kahzil Mohsen Shalesh, is still at large, but his brother Hazil Mohsen Shalesh was captured and is giving information about the possible whereabouts of his brother.

Also in Muqdadiyah the 205th Iraqi National Guard and a U.S. task force, in two separate raids captured men suspected of placing IEDs, seized their weapons and IED supplies Jan 1.

The ING captured Amir Saleh Ismael and Ahmed Qumra Isaa while placing IEDs. The two are suspected of attacking the ING Dec. 29. The two also confessed to placing an IED in another location. The two confessed to the location of another IED and a patrol found a 155mm white phosphorus round with detonation cord.

In a second raid, three high value targets Arkan Jawad Jari, Majid Abdul Hameed Kazim and Muthana Kahdum Al Madawwere, are all suspected of being part of an IED cell. The weapons found consisted of five 82mm mortar rounds, nine AK-47s, IED materials, one mortar site, two RPG sites and a RPK heavy machine gun.

Message from the Islamic Army in Iraq to the American People

A message signed by the “Islamic Army in Iraq” and posted to Jihadist message boards on January 2, 2005, is a rambling indictment of the United States, accusing the American people of barbarism and ignorance and declaring “[t]he entire world hates America and the American people.” The message ends with a promise of violence against American citizens and soldiers in the New Year:

“American People! We pity you while you are calling for your democracy through which you could not protect yourselves and your sons… In brief, we wish to say the following to you:

In the upcoming days, you are going to be deprived of the security that your government has been fooling you by, attempting to achieve it for you…

The past days were a promenade for your soldiers… 2005 is going to witness a big change in the quality and quantity of the operations that will be targeting your army… Allâh willing, history will record it…

We have long tried to ignore your president’s declaration that this is a crusade… Regrettably however, seeing the daily assaults by your soldiers on our Islamic sanctities and our scholars, and their attempt to unjustly humiliate, detain, and kill them, we could not prolong ignoring it [the U.S. President’s declaration]…

This is some of what we wanted to remind you of in this brief message, as you are entering your New Year… Allâh is Greatest! Glory to Allâh!”

The Islamic Army in Iraq is a resistance group which has carried out attacks in Iraq against U.S. and Iraqi forces, including the October 24, 2004 mortar attack which killed Ed Seitz, assistant regional security officer at the US embassy in Baghdad, as well as a Summer 2004 attempt to assassinate Iraqi politician Ahmed Chalabi.

The U.S. military says U.S.-led forces in Iraq have captured a prominent militant linked to al-Qaida ally Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

A military statement issued Saturday says Abdul Aziz Sa'dun Ahmed Hamduni -- also known as Abu Ahmed -- was detained on December 22. The military says Abu Ahmed was the deputy of Abu Talha, commander of a Zarqawi terrorist group in the northern city of Mosul.

Last week, the Iraqi government announced the capture of two other Abu Talha leaders in late December.

The developments come as Iraq prepares for elections on January 30.

President Bush says the U.S. military will do its best to give every Iraqi citizen a chance to vote. On Friday, the president confirmed reports he is sending a team to Iraq to assess the country's security situation.
