Just a heads up on the Leno show. The audience is loaded with troops and the theme is pro military.
Cool!
I missed it. How did it go?
Very good. Rob Schneider came on, showed photos of himself all over Iraq with the troops (including one of him with his feet on Saddam's coffee table, which got a roar from the audience), and did some of the jokes he uses to entertain the troops. I'll have to make it a point to check out some of his comedies. Interesting that they're produced by Adam Sandler, and he's in all of Sandler's movies, while Sandler is rumored to be one of those rare quiet Hollywood Republicans. Sandler also reportedly got his "SNL" start thanks to the recommendation of Dennis Miller and admires Miller greatly. I know Miller and Dana Carvey are also friends, and I've seen Carvey do some surprisingly biting comedy bits about Clinton and liberals in general. Wonder if they all ever get together and talk politics, like a secret Republican ex-"SNL" cabal?
Godspeed...and thank you for your courage and sacrifice.
Merry Christmas.
LFOD - May God keep you and your compatriots! Thank you for serving to defend our country - prayers for your family back home, too. You will never know how much your sacrifice is appreciated.
cool. Leno came to see us during Gulf War round one.
One of the nicer Hollywood types I've met. I envy his
bike collection and really enjoy is PM magazine pieces.
We love you guys and gals. Don't let the media get you down; thousands of GIs come back every month, we all know them, and they tell the great stories of your works. We know, and the media can't take that away!
Thank you again and again. We're praying for you, the success of your mission, and the future of the Iraqi people.
Miller and Carvey's friendship goes back to before Dennis became a moderate. He's a recent convert to right-of-center thought. He was pretty rough on Reagan during his tenure, and was much harder on Newt Gingrich than he was on Clinton. Miller is a 9/12 conservative, more like, say, Ed Koch than Charlton Heston. Miller is also now a father, and he is one of those celebs who isn't shy about saying how it improved his life. His reward for not hiding his changed outlook? Being depicted in Vanity Fair as a monkey dancing for an organ-grinding GWB.
Carvey is a solid family guy (I will never forget his advice on Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher about not giving up on marriage when the passion fades, because it will always return) and did the definitive George H.W. Bush impersonation ("Not gonna do it!"). Back then, whether it was Ford, Carter, Reagan, or Bush pere, you could make fun of a President while not insulting him. I don't know why that's such a difficult task nowadays.
Thanks for your sacrifices for our freedoms. Know that you and your fellow troops are in our prayers.
I wonder if Adam Sandler didn't get enough of leftist hollywood with his SNL costar Janeane "I think Adam Sandler's comedy is childish" Garofalo.
I always thought that was a very stupid comment coming from someone who was dating Ben Stiller who makes the most childish movies in Hollywood IMO.
