Analysis: Stolen fetus crime not first

It was a crime so horrible people find it hard to imagine -- the theft of a fetus cut from its dying mother's womb.

Last week's slaying of Bobbie Jo Stinnett by a woman who pretended to befriend her over their mutual love of pedigreed dogs has captured world attention.

"Womb-snatch killer," blared a headline in Australia. "Womb-theft baby home" said a headline in South Africa. But as grisly as the slaying of the pregnant 23-year-old woman and kidnapping of her unborn baby was, it's not the first such crime.

Two people were sentenced to death in Illinois for the 1995 murder of Debra Evans and the kidnapping of her near-term unborn fetus sliced from the expectant mother's womb with scissors.

That crime was even more violent than the Missouri case. Evan's 10-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son were killed apparently because they knew the people responsible for the nightmarish delivery. The boy's body was found in a Maywood, Ill., alley.

The stolen infant, named Elijah, survived along with Evans' 1-year-old son, who was not harmed. Elijah, 9, and his brother, now 10, live with their grandfather in southern Illinois.

Unbelievably, there have been 6 such occurrences in the last 10 years; according to Judge Napolitano, guest on the Sean Hannity radio show today. Wow, I had no idea.

That gal should live just long enough for people to get her life history from which we might learn something. She should then be eliminated from the gene pool without much fanfare.

Simply can not imagine what would drive her to something like that.

Lethal injection is too compassionate. Drawing and quaterting seems appropriate here.

Stolen "fetus"?

What is it with the East Coast liberals that they can't bring themselves to call a baby a baby.

Fetus, fetus, fetus..... She is a baby, for crying out loud. Amazing, how they avoid that word.

I Blog BooksFetus, fetus, fetus... She is a baby...

It is a fetus until removed from the mother's womb. After that it is a baby. So it is impossible to "steal a fetus".

From dictionary.com:
fe·tus ( P ) n. pl. fe·tus·es
  1. The unborn young of a viviparous vertebrate having a basic structural resemblance to the adult animal.
  2. In humans, the unborn young from the end of the eighth week after conception to the moment of birth, as distinguished from the earlier embryo.
