SEATTLE, Dec. 22 - After a bitter and protracted recount fight in the Washington governor's race, elections officials announced Wednesday that the Democratic candidate, Christine O. Gregoire, was leading her Republican opponent by 10 votes - a minuscule margin but a stunning reversal of the Nov. 2 election results.
The preliminary results elated Democratic Party officials and came only hours after the party scored another victory, when the State Supreme Court agreed with the Democrats' contention that more than 700 newly discovered and erroneously disqualified ballots in heavily Democratic King County should now be considered.
Since those ballots came from a county where Ms. Gregoire, 57, already had a solid lead, the ruling could allow her to increase her extraordinarily tiny edge in a race that is the closest in state history and one of the closest in the nation's history.

Only Luddites would believe that a hand count, fraught with human error and subjectivity, is superior to a machine count. The whole premise is bogus.
Thanks for the offer, I'll be forwarding several hundred washington state ballots I found in the trunk of my car last night....haven't a clue how they got there but I'm sure the state court will be OK with chain of custody.
If the democRAT is now ahead, does that mean that after 7 weeks, we can now stop counting?
That would have been excellent advice on November 3rd. I guess it's just a liberal thing. Do as I say, and not as I do and all of that.
One really big point missing in the article:
King County was late mailing out absentee ballots, but only to military members overseas. When they came back late, they refused to count them, and in their latest trip back to court, they never mentioned those votes.
They only mentioned the 700 votes they found, where ever they found them. Then the Democrat lawyer has the gaul to invoke the memory of fallen soldiers who died to guarantee the right to vote in support of his case!
Why don't you liberals celebrate by slaughtering a 1000 new children this January! Another constitutional right invented by the legal system - the right to an abortion at just about any stage.
Or better yet, you can set up another entitlement program - daycare for working mothers. You guys will set the bar so that the cut off for help is just below where it needs to be for Mom to get night school and a better job - ensuring they stay dependent on it for at least 7 years.
And since we're talking about sour grapes, Democrats used to own congress. What happened?
LOL...couldn't see this result coming a mile away, could you?! Washington DemonRATS are SCUM...MUD
If the Supremes had allowed hand counting of all ballots in FL in 2000 there's no doubt Al Gore would have won, too.
Are you brain dead or just terminally STOO-PID?
I wish GOPsters would stop the sour grapes for once.
OK lady, I have to know, where do you get your STOO-PID pills? It's your IDIOT fellow travelers who have the mouth full of sour grapes.
Oh and I pity your children. I hope they realize that their mother is certifiably insane.
How 'bout it guys...are ya wid me, or agin me? ;^D
no,no,no Condor! let murrymom speak. She has one of the finest liberal minds around, all wrapped up in a nubile young body.
Sorta like Katie Couric... ;^D

And in an election year that delivered Democrats so many bruising losses, the potential fall and rise of a Democrat in Washington would be a deliciously hard-won aberration.
Such an outcome would also be a personal victory for Mr. Berendt, the state party chairman.
For the last few weeks, he has begun each morning with hard-charging confrontations on a 6 a.m. talk radio show with Mr. Vance, the Republican chairman, whom he described as a "friend" before the election.
"It's time for Democrats somewhere to draw a line in the sand and say we are not going to let bully Republican tactics determine who our governor is or how an election is going to be determined," he said.
Translation: If we [Democrats] can get away with vote fraud, we will do it. If we can't, the Republicans are the big, bad bullies.
Or something like that.
Please let me know if you want ON or OFF my Viking Kitty/ZOT ping list!. . .don't be shy.
Draw a line. I dare you. What a crock!

Agreed. It's absurd.
They can only steal the election if it is close. You are correct that this only lights a fire under the Silent Majority to get out in even bigger numbers next time.
Well lookie here:
"a deliciously hard-won aberration."
Yes, no bias at the NY Slimes...
The Kerry scampaign collected money specifically for legal challenges. That they are using funds in Washington State (on another race) is not surprising. They will make a last stand whereever it takes to manufacture at least one win.
Keep counting until the Democrats win. < /sarcasm >
haha! Okay! :^DI just checked and it looks like I have (hopefully) all the original stuff in my file.
I'll go check it out and see what I can come up with.
