Arnold signals for a left (let that be a lesson to you Governator fans)

Arnold Schwarzenegger wants to liberalize the GOP.

The California governor has told a German newspaper the Republicans should move "a little to the left."

"The Republican Party currently covers only the spectrum from the right wing to the middle," the former action hero told Sueddeutsche Zeitung. "I would like the Republican Party to cross this line. ... This would immediately give the party 5% more votes without it losing anything elsewhere."

Maria Shriver's husband was guarded when asked about his presidential ambitions, saying only that a debate on amending the U.S. Constitution to allow foreign-born citizens to run was "overdue."

The only difference between Arnold and Gray Davis is the letter at the end of their names.

It's not a whip. It's a lock box. :)

And what is contained in that lock box..?

For a muscular guy, Arnold sure has no cajones.

"I would like the Republican Party to cross this line. ... This would immediately give the party 5% more votes without it losing anything elsewhere."

Wrong. This will lose conservative voters to another candidate.

CA's Republican voters should sue Ah-nold for breach of promise and fraud. Isn't that the game the Dems play in CA?

Funny how the "posse" here on FR that insisted that anyone who didn't vote for Arnold was an "idiot" never comments on threads like these.

Arnold is socially liberal, everyone has always known that! Why does this come as a surprise?

I think Arnold is correct. If the repubicans keep moving to the right they are going to lose voters in the middle. Voters like me, my family and my friends.

Arnold is a Libertarian plain and simple. If his principles are what voters are looking for, the Libertarian party runs a candidate in every election.

Let's consider the last four years: 1) Increasing the funding to the Dept of Educations by nearly 50% 2) Soaring budget deficits 3) Increasing funding for PBS 4) Another 4 million illegals entered the country 5) Promise of a guest worker aka amnesty program to reward the illegal line jumpers (this program is aimed at Mexicans and not the Chinese who wish to escape religious genocide, forced abortions etc 6) The prescription drug benefit entitlement which by some estimates will cost a half trillion dollars in the next ten years.

The Republican leadership has already taken some very liberal positions. If they move any further to the left they can call themselves Democrats and save on the advertising.

The California governor has told a German newspaper the Republicans should move "a little to the left."

Yeah right...we've just come off a huge Conservative victory so we better move to the left. Now that we've won the White House again and at the same time improved our majorities in the House and Senate we should abandon our principles and govern like 'Rats. Arnold and his ilk make me sick.

The article you posted is BS.

http://www.sacbee.com/content/politics/story/11840231p-12728098c.html

"I think that right now the Republican Party is all the way from the right to the center. And the Democratic Party is all the way from the left to the center. And I like the Republican Party to cross that center line. Keep it to the right where it is, but I mean cross over that center line a little bit, because that would take immediately away 5 percent from the Democrats and be home free for good. That's the trick."
Hujer's German-language story, including that passage, was published in his newspaper on Saturday. International news agencies picked up the quotation, translating it back into English. The version that the Associated Press distributed quoted Schwarzenegger, inaccurately, as saying he wanted Republicans to move "a little to the left."

Arnold also recently signed in legislation that is going to hurt the old car hobby. While I'm not a Ca resident I'm still not a fan of awnold.

I think all those years of steriod use shriveled his gonads to pea size.

CA's Republican voters should sue Ah-nold for breach of promise and fraud.

Why? Everyone knew what they were getting with this fraud. Arnold is not now, never has been and probably never will be a conservative. He's a liberal jerk and will probably always be a liberal jerk. California Republicans didn't buy a pig in a poke, judging from posts on Freerepublic all that mattered was a 'R' victory. California Republicans and many California FreeRepublicans betrayed their conservative principles, abandoned Simon attacked his supporters and substituted a failed 'Rat liberal for a Republican liberal.
