Catholic League president William Donohue commented today on some disturbing responses to Christmas:
In San Francisco, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a band of characters the Los Angeles Times affectionately calls a group of queer nuns, has been bashing Christmas all month. In Minneapolis, gay-themed Christmas bashing has been happening at the Hennepin Center for the Arts and the Brave New Workshop. To understand why this is going on, consider what one New Hampshire non-Christian said when asked about Christmas celebrations in the schools: Its offensive to those who dont celebrate it. Better yet is Phil Goodstein, a Denver historian who recently labeled the nativity scene utterly obnoxious. Julie Wells, also of Denver, confesses that I wish they had kidnapped the Baby Jesus when they kidnapped Rudolph, adding that she fantasizes about driving a Chevy Blazer over a crèche. And both atheist Christopher Hitchens (always the contrarian), and Dallas Cowboy fullback Darian Barnes, boasted over the weekend how much they hate Christmas.
One of the most offensive incidents this Christmas season occurred recently in Plainfield, Illinois, outside of Chicago. At Central School, a song called I Hate This Holiday was listed in the holiday concert program. The song, which is really a parody from the choral Frostys First Adventure, was taken by school bus driver Carmen Brown as a real slap in the face at Christians; she called for a boycott of the concert. In stepped Linda DiLeo, the schools principal. She, too, thought the song was meant to offend, but nonetheless justified it: We have Jewish children, we have children who celebrated Ramadan a couple of weeks ago. We take into account that we arent all celebrating the same holiday and try to put on programs that everyone can celebrate.
In other words, DiLeo thinks it is necessary to bash Christians at Christmastime because Jews and Muslims dont celebrate Christmas. This is rank bigotryagainst all three religious groupsand that is why we are making a formal complaint to the Illinois State Board of Education.
Let's call it what it really is....hating Christ and Christians.
It is the spirit of anti-Christ, alive and well.
It's okay for gays and lesbians to make jokes about Christmas, thereby alienating Christians but when someone straight makes a joke about gays it is called hate speech?
Excuse me, but either take the same as what you dish (again, sorry for the pun) out, or shut the F up!
I can't figure out the point of the article. I celebrate Christmas. My Jewish neighbors don't. As soon as somone comes over and knocks over my Christmas tree, I'll take notice of rising anti-Christmas tree sentiment. Until then, I will ignore this guy Donahue, who frankly strikes me as a great big crybaby.
"Its offensive to those who dont celebrate it. "
Terrific. I suppose we can logically argue that since homosexuality is offensive to those who don't practice it, it should be illegal. somehow I don't expect the ACLU to take up that cause.
They should be grateful we're not still worshipping the Norse gods anymore. About this time of year we'd be hanging prisoners from the trees sacred to Odin. I for one would be sure to stock up on these "nuns" well before Solstice! Wouldn't want to run short.
If they hate Christmas now, they'll REALLY hate it when He returns.
"There is NO holiday on Earth which is celebrated by everyone. (idiots)"
Excellent point!

So true.
ping!
Someone who has charisma, charm, clout with politicians, the ability to be at ease with public speaking. Being good looking would be a plus. Someone who both conservatives and moderate Democrats can relate to.
It's time for the 85% of this great nation to take it back from the 15% that wants to destroy everything our forefathers fought and died for. That our military is still fighting and dying for.
Any suggestions on a likely candidate might be? Just throw out a few names and sees what sticks.
Ditto.
Merry Christmas brother...(check your FReepmail)...

Another excellent example OF THE TWISTED LIBERAL DOUBLE STANDARD... they can do it, but you cannot...SCREW THEM ALL!
Turning the other cheek will only get you slapped on the other side now.
Me.
Donahue is in a publicity death spiral. He has to keep coming out with more and more outrageous examples and more and more extreme statements...
