In the past three years, Muslim families increasingly have chosen such schools as Al Bustan, hoping that they will be havens from anti-Muslim sentiment their children might encounter in public schools, parents and Muslim educators say. Parents worry that their customs are unwelcome in a country at war in Iraq and Afghanistan; some Muslims say they detect an anti-Islam bias in the US media.

"anti-Muslim sentiment their children MIGHT encounter in public schools"
MIGHT being the operative word.
If these were Christians the Globe would have an editorial talking about "raising their children in a climate of unnecessary fear," but it's nice to see the Globe has changed its mind about private schooling. I expect an editorial supporting vouchers very soon. No, I'm not holding my breath.

Brought a tear to my eye, that one did. My heart aches for these poor unassimilated Muslims, oppressed as they are by our Cryptofascist Aryan Christian Crusader Empire.
Maybe they'd be more comfortable back in their places of origin.
Just a thought.

please make some way to access these initial posts without clicking on the title, and so highlighting every incident of it forever after:
eg there is no way to click on the item immediately below and access the reply, but on the next item you can click on '1 reply' and get to it. Often I don't want the whole title repeatedly color changed to show that I once accessed it.

It brought a tear to my eye, too. Not! :-)

Oh, no no no, we must bend to their cultural wills and be tolerant and change our social values to meet the needs of Eastern philosophies and Islamic Culture. We can't be marauding Crusaders bent on forcing our culture and beliefs on the immigrants. (sarcasm button pushed).

1- If muslims would start condemning their own murderers, then perhaps they themselves would not be condemned.

Does AlBusin teach Christianity so those of the Muslim persuasion understand diversity and other cultures?

As much as I support school vouchers, it's gets a bit tougher with stories like these.
Perhaps we add a string (to schools that want to accept vouchers) that reads (to the effect): "Schools that support Jihad and violent overthrow of the US government are not eligible." Yea, that'll work. No Muslim school could meet that requirement, and thus they wouldn't get our money.

I seriously doubt it, as that would be teaching herasy and apostasy, and as muslims they can be executed for doing it.
Here is a quote from the article:
"Al Bustan, though, opened on a cautious note, following a controversy over the school's landlord, the Islamic Society of Boston, which had been questioned by authorities about whether radical Islamic groups overseas were funding its mosque and a school building project in Roxbury.
The society's board of directors has denied receiving money from extremist groups. But the allegations have disturbed people at the school: Many Muslims involved in Al Bustan also pray at the mosque run by the Islamic Society."

I'll say it -- even at Christmastime:
We are in the early stages of a massive and protracted conflict between Islam and Western Democracy.
Everything our Founding Fathers put their lives on the line for is at stake here.
Merry Christmas, fellow freepers.
Regarding Muslim "immigrants": Don't give an inch! As a cultural entity, they will not assimilate; Beware of their collective goals, as demographically, our Western Culture is under dire threat; and I fear that within 50-60 years, our nation as we know it today will not exist.
Islam is NOT a peaceful civilization; and its tenets, both embodies within the Quran and follow-on Hadiths preclude peaceful assimilation within Christendom!

(Moo) Parents worry that their customs (most importantly the ones passed down from Muhammad and his Mein Koran as well the death cult spirit living on in its adherents today) are unwelcome in a country at war in Iraq and Afghanistan fighting for its existence against Muhammadanism's Jihad (which is against pretty much everyone in the world...)
A little better...

NOOOOO! I respect the Globe as an upstanding bastion of honesty. and they have been ever since they collaborated with Ted Kennedy on how best to spin the story of his Harvard cheating.
Now THAT is the sarcastic part.
