How come we never hear about the wind chill factor in August, or the heat index in December?

The one redeeming factor to living in New England is that for the most part the temperature is dominated by the Atlantic Ocean. By the time the ocean gets cold enough to let the polar air masses effect the weather, the days have already begun to get longer.

Down in the Tip of Texas we're dreaming of a white Christmas...and the forecast is showing a chance of snow and sleet for Thursday night and Friday morning. Amazing!

Something is wrong with that "49" on the VA/NC border. That is my approximate location and 28 was the high today.

It has been cold here in the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley regions for the last couple of days.
You gotta make sure to get those logs of wood in the fall and stock 'em up in your backyard next to your house. Get that fireplace goin'.

Wind chill is an utter farce created by the news media and hyperbolic weathermen.
Put on a windproof jacket and it goes away.

It's 29 degrees right now in west central Florida!

What's with Pennsylvania? It looks like a pocket of 40-ish surrounded by 5-ish.

Because they're not a factor in calculating the comfortability of the season. However, having been a lifeguard on the Jersey Shore I can assure you that a windy nor'easter in August can raise goose bumps. I can remember wearing my hooded jacket and cussin' the tourist who don't have the smarts to come in out of the cold. I suspect that's what causes those "summer colds".
Was in Point Barrow in '69 when the aneomometer was blown off the weather mast. Its last reading was 120mph!! The temp was -32F and the wind chill was off the chart.
To: crushelits
I just looked out the window at the thermometer,-12 degrees below zero, record low -18(1973)
Thursday predicted +45-50 above zero, record high for today +49(1957)
What does this all mean to "scientists" global warming is a proven fact based on the close to record high.Forget the close to record low,not important to the discussion.

The map shows my area with 54, but it barely got above 44 today, not even counting the WCF.

Something is wrong with that "49" on the VA/NC border. That is my approximate location and 28 was the high today. The map shows the wind chill. The wind was blowing backwards today, so it felt hotter than it really was. |

:( It was a pleasant 60+ today in Kansas. The north wind started this evening. Winter starts in ---what?-- 12 hours?

The one redeeming factor to living in New England coastal New England is that for the most part the temperature is dominated by the Atlantic Ocean. By the time the ocean gets cold enough to let the polar air masses effect the weather, the days have already begun to get longer. Isn't true for inland, here in Vermont, I don't think! It's dang cold. Just about -20 here now without windchill, and the temperatures are still dropping.
This isn't supposed to happen until January! < /whine >

COLD HITS HALF OF THE NATION.
In California today it was about 74 degrees, light pacific breeze, visibility was unlimited. We can't eat the Oranges off our trees quick enough, gave away a shopping bag full yesterday. All our flowers blooming, and we BBQed this afternoon.
Hard to believe folks are living in places that are colder than my our refrigerator.
Yikes!

Is the map showing temps for tomorrow? If so, it will feel like a heat wave at 50 degrees, after the freezing weather we had in N.C. today!
