WASHINGTON - The Food and Drug Administration Monday issued a warning to patients taking the painkiller naproxen [snip] for increased risk of heart problems.
Patients taking naproxen, [snip] should not take it for more than 10 days unless directed by their doctor, the FDA said in a statement.

lol--massage for the caregivers, and more vacation time...
My dad takes Aleve, but it eats my stomach up... I take celebrex...seems that is safer in the dosages for arthritis than some of the others...
yes--forgot about that one.
"...there are many of us for whom stronger pain relief is a necessity..."
And I am sympathetic to the plight you share with many. A couple years ago I had to use some of the really strong stuff related to what Rush was using. Those things work. They also scare me. During that time I had to use the one with the Tylenol boost because the one with the aspirin boost caused severe tinitus.
Try Canadian Club
Do you take the C by powder or capsule? I have 500 mg. Ester C capsules, but don't know the Metric system well enough to know how many 500 mgs. of the C would equal one gram?

big 'ol BUMP to that!
1000mg = 1g
I take it by the truck load. I have had two knee surgeries, back surgery (before 30) torn up both ankles. I was promised a hip replacement in '84. Both of my elbows have different degrees of damage from sports. I have broken all 10 of my fingers.
I live on Advil. I walk half way normal after 4 Advils.I am worn out from the inside out.

I have gone from having a migraine at least 5 days a week to having them about once a month.

ginger helps, too.
Narcotic pain relief kicks in my bile system in a nasty way and gives me spasms that hurt like heart symptoms if I take it very long..
Ibuprofen hurts. Asprin hurts.
Funny how the body does this stuff...wonder what my dad's going to do about pain relief. He's been on Aleve for years.
Many years ago, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. The typical treatment at that time was aspirin. Well, that treatment only worked for a few days before I was in big trouble. Someone recommended Adele Davis' book "Lets Get Well". I followed her recommendation of large doses of Vit C, Pantothentic acid and Vit E. Rheumatoid arthritis--gone.
After doctors with their drugs nearly killed my sister suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, she changed her diet and treated a condition called "leaky gut syndrome" and took lots of supplements. She still has fibrmyalgia but the rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune disorders are gone. It's been a long tough haul but she has been restored to health.
What it really smells of is Drug War. Oxycontin is now "hillbilly heroin." Better for the serfs to die than for anyone to get high.
I just came from the Celebrex thread.
My wife had been on Vioxx when they pulled that drug.
She and other women in her office realized they had been experiencing some of the heart problem symptoms from the Vioxx.
Dr. put her on Celebrex (the 400mg that causes 2.5x the heart & stroke problems as apposed to the 2x of the Vioxx).
Last night wife said maybe she should go back to Aleve!
All the prescribed drugs for arthritis have bad side affects, some worse than others. NONE of them promote healing.
Got arthritis?, try the glucosamine, MSM, vit C, + other stuff in liquid form. Health food store, grocery store or feed store. Doesn't work for all types of arthritis but if it does it will actually promote healing.
Why not try the Healing Touch (or whatever the heck they called it), or maybe taking a trip to Lourdes?
Read "The Arthritis Cure" by Jason Theodosakis,MD and check out his web site http://www.drtheo.com
He's a proponent of glucosamine/chondroitin to ease pain, relieve symptoms, and possibly correct arthritis conditions. It worked very quickly for me on a hip so painful I couldn't clinmb into an SUV without assistance. Now I'm dancing, pain free. He recommends the Osteo-Biflex brand, available at drugstores and supermarkets and published reports of Consumer's Union studies of competing brands in his book. None come close.
From his web site:
"Glucosamine and Chondroitin... first burst on the scene with the #1 bestseller The Arthritis Cure , now revised for 2004 (St. Martin's Press). Chondroitin especially has been shown to reduce the need for anti-inflammatory drugs, such as Vioxx®, ibuprofen, aspirin, Aleve®, and Celebrex®.
"A cost-effectiveness study by the French government showed that it saved money by giving arthritis sufferers chondroitin. In a review of 11,000 records, 50% of those needing NSAIDs were able to stop these drugs completely. This meant less money spent on co-medications (such as acid blockers usually needed for people on NSAIDs), physical therapy and surgeries, such as joint replacement.
"Forty-two clinical studies have been published on these supplements in humans, including comparisons to placebo and anti-inflammatory drugs, x-ray studies of joint space (a measure of the cartilage thickness), cost analyses to show that the drugs save money to use, and long-term safety trials (up to 5 years in duration).
"Two review article of the double-blinded, placebo-controlled studies were both positive (JAMA, 2000 and Annals of Internal Medicine, 2003)."
Another migraine sufferer here. I too read labels and avoid the things you have mentioned...but may I add (and look out for this yourselves) is FD&C yellow 5 food coloring and large doses of caffienne. I have said that if I ever drink a diet Mt. Dew (aspartame, caffienne and yellow #5, my head will blow up. MSG, btw, can be listed on food labels as 'natural flavoring.' So be careful!!!
5 years and loving it.
I thought Jocelyn Elders wanted all the kids to go blind!! ;-)
