Excellent! Thanks. I just pung it, WITH the last 2 paragraphs in the excerpt.

George Patton Speech

I want you to remember that no bas*ard ever won the war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor, dumb bas*ard die for his country. Men, all this stuff you’ve heard about America not wanting to fight – wanting to stay out of the war - is a lot of horse dung! Americans traditionally love to fight! All REAL Americans love the sting of battle …..

And HERE is the full statement (both the MOVIE version and Patton's actual speech are here).

WHY hasn't the press discussed this? or rather, why has the press try to present this like the Military and this Administration in gerneral would handle something this delicate like they themselves would??--with no respect.

One reason is most reporter have no knowledge of the military, they've never served, the don't have any friends or family that have. So they have no understanding of the military.

Q Thank you, Mr. President. Several Republican lawmakers recently have criticized Secretary Rumsfeld. What does he need to do to rebuild their trust?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, first of all, when I asked the Secretary to stay on as Secretary of Defense, I was very pleased when he said "yes." And I asked him to stay on because I understand the nature of the job of the Secretary of Defense, and I believe he's doing a really fine job.

The Secretary of Defense is a complex job. It's complex in times of peace, and it's complex even more so in times of war. And the Secretary has managed this Department during two major battles in the war on terror -- Afghanistan and Iraq. And at the same time, he's working to transform our military so it functions better, it's lighter, it's ready to strike on a moment's notice. In other words, that the force structure meets the demands we face in the 21st century.

Not only is he working to transform the nature of the forces, we're working to transform where our forces are based. As you know, we have recently worked with the South Korean government, for example, to replace manpower with equipment, to keep the Peninsula secure and the Far East secure, but at the same time, recognizing we have a different series of threats. And he's done a fine job, and I look forward to continuing to work with him.

And I know the Secretary understands the Hill. He's been around in Washington a long period of time and he will continue to reach out to members of the Hill, explaining the decisions he's made. And I believe that in a new term, members of the Senate and the House will recognize what a good job he's doing.

Thank you. (Laughter.) You talked about the big picture elements of the Secretary's job, but did you find it offensive that he didn't take the time to personally sign condolence letters to the families of troops killed in Iraq? And, if so, why is that an offense that you're willing to overlook?

THE PRESIDENT: Listen, I know how -- I know Secretary Rumsfeld's heart. I know how much he cares for the troops. He and his wife go out to Walter Reed in Bethesda all the time to provide comfort and solace. I have seen the anguish in his -- or heard the anguish in his voice and seen his eyes when we talk about the danger in Iraq, and the fact that youngsters are over there in harm's way. And he is -- he's a good, decent man. He's a caring fellow. Sometimes perhaps is demeanor is rough and gruff, but beneath that rough and gruff, no-nonsense demeanor is a good human being who cares deeply about the military, and deeply about the grief that war causes.

Stumbled? Where?

GWB went on and on about Rumsfeld being a good guy. Large deal. That will be buried, just like Rumsfleld's detailed answer about armor.

What Bush should have done is used the questions as an opportunity to berate the press for selective editing re: armor. He could have lectured the assembled press in a way a father lectures a prodigal son. Make those bas----s squirm for a change. The public would have been informed about Rumsfeld's WHOLE answer, and at the same time rooted for someone who bashed the press. That always works.

Nice guys like Bush have to go out of character when the press least expects it and coldcock them.

To: everyone

Thank you all for all your nice thoughts about my brother-in-law. That was really nice.

I think that everyone said basically the same thing too--about how it is 99% political and backed by the media.

But still the truth has to get out there. I mean, Fox and radio is good, but the mass public not constantly up on the real news--will only remember what was said ( and lied about ) first! I think the dems rely on that!.

What to do about it? I agree that we should write letters to the Newspapers and stations giving our support to Mr. Rumsfield. It's the only way to get back at them.

Merry Christams and Happy New Year to you all.

Funny thing ; David didn't even have to go to Iraq. And I think of all those like Clinton who worked harder getting out of service than supporting out troops when president-and those who went to defend their country who didn't have to and ended up sacrificing their lives--and I get mad as hell. And Clinton still never went to that memorial for those soldiers who lost their lives in Somalia.
