In an incident the YMCA is calling "a very regrettable scheduling error," kids arriving for an early-morning swim meet Sunday walked into a gender-bending scene of the kind most of them wouldn't be allowed to watch on TV.
Several of the kids' angry parents clashed with participants in a transgender fashion show, which had been under way at the New City YMCA since about midnight, resulting in a chaotic melee that was eventually broken up by private security guards and East Chicago District police.
A YMCA member had reserved the entire facility, at 1515 N. Halsted, from 11 p.m. Saturday through 8 a.m. Sunday for a fashion show and ball, which featured cross-dressing and transgender models in a competition similar to the ones shown in the 1991 documentary "Paris Is Burning." But the facility had also been booked to host the youth swim meet, scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. Sunday. When the swimmers -- mostly elementary and junior high school-age kids -- and their parents started showing up shortly after 6 a.m., many of the parents were upset to see the "House of Escada" fashion show and dance in full swing.
"It was like they didn't want the kids to see the gay people at all," said Kashma Avery, in a recorded interview provided by WBBM-AM (780). Avery was in charge of a 13-member security detail for the ball, which he said was attended by about 400 people, most of them gay men.
Scheduling policies face review
As parents and other YMCA members began to complain about the event, New City staff reportedly closed off access to bathrooms and locker rooms, barring the "House of Escada" participants from continuing to use the facility. At that point, party guests and parents began confronting each other in the building's hallways and lobby.
"Some of the guests started hearing sexist slurs," said Avery, "and an altercation ensued."
A chair was thrown, and when a witness mistakenly reported hearing shots fired, police were called to the scene. The scuffle was quickly broken up, and police said no arrests were made.
A spokesman for the YMCA, Luis Diaz-Perez, said Sunday, "The YMCA regrets any confusion or concern caused to our members by this scheduling conflict."
He added that New City, which does not typically schedule overnight events, will today undertake a comprehensive review of its rental and scheduling policies.

Are you a Y employee? Seems like it. Do I detect irony in your reply--as in, a lot of it?
A young adolescent who has a poor family upbringing and becomes the prey of a homosexual does not "choose" to (as you put it) "either actively participate or not to actively resist". A MINOR adolescent is not expected to, nor should be expected to, be able to protect themselves from the predators of the world. Parents, teachers, and society are supposed to do the protecting, not the predating.
We are not saying the same thing.
What part of "preying on weakness" do you not understand?
A young kid who is emotionally unstable, or unfulfilled, from poor family dynamics, is prey. The homosexual predator is 100% responsible for preying upon weakness. Why do you think "statutory rape" exists? Because a young adolescent needs protection from chicken hawks.

Nothing to worry about sharing a locker room with homosexuals. They AREN'T interested in looking at heterosexuals... Your children are SAFE < /sarcasm >
CELEBRATE PERVESITY
Sounds like upper management was literally caught with their pants down having an unChristian "after hours" party.
A large part of it was about not letting the sex perverts seeing the children getting into their swimwear.
Have to wonder how many sex acts took place in the bathrooms of this all-night party.
I know...because it happened to me. A religious brother who taught art class at my junior high school put the moves on me. Faced with a similar situation, I simply said, "Brother, please don't try to hug me and stuff, that makes me feel uncomfortable." ...and then I went home and told my mom.
The next week, in art class, I told the religious that I had told my parents that while I liked art class, I felt uncomfortable with his attempt to "hug" me. At my mother's instruction, I told him "My mother told me just to tell you how uncomfortable it makes me and that if I feel uncomfortable again, I will be telling my parents."
Needless to say, we never had to deal with that issue again.
I was thirteen. My father was generally absent. I knew exactly what was going on. Don't underestimate the understanding of a kid.

Hope SOMEONE, disinfected the place before the kids were allowed in!
"It was like they didn't want the kids to see the gay people at all,"
Gee..........Ya THINK??? I agree, they keep shoving the "it's normal" montra at us and the kids, and it's NOT!
A couple of homosexuals hit on me as well, but I was a bit older (16). And I rejected their "advances" as well. But a 12 to 16 year old kid (what to speak of younger age kid) is supposed to be protected - not just from predators, but from their own immaturity and weakness. Homosexuals preying on emotionally weak children and adolescents are reprehensible.
It certainly would be a good world if all kids had the emotional maturity and strength to withstand predators, but they don't. And sometimes the "come on" is hard to resist - up to and including the use of duct tape.
Probably the first thing you got straight all year, Kashma.
"just hit LOL"
What do you mean?
THis is exactly WHY these sicko perverts want marriage and normalization ie" civil rights. So they have the access. THere are huge amouts of money pouring in for their activism.
And it needs to be stopped!!!!!!
Not sure, this post is so active I forgot what I remarked to .
The Y should've canceled the swin meet and scheduled a CWC function at 7am instead.
hehe...
As a fellow student, I'd still recommend you check out the campus facilities, you pay for them!
Not all campus facilities have a "problem". You should be able to tell pretty quick...hehe.
Also try going at various times that fit your schedule, hopefully you'll find a time without many other folks using the equipment, or the Village People Fan Club. The lispers tend to show up at set times, I guess it's a social scene for athletic gays....if you can avoid these times you'll probably be able to work out hassle free.
Still, beware the cameras in dressing rooms/lockers/showers. Phone cams/spycams are all the rage with that set, especially on campus. The last thing this world needs is a pic of my butt on the internet...hehe
