Valid marriage licenses turned away
Washington Times ^ | Monday, December 20, 2004

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (AP) -- The Social Security Administration is rejecting marriage documents issued for all couples in communities that performed homosexual "weddings" earlier this year.
The agency is rejecting all marriage certificates issued in New Paltz, N.Y.; Asbury Park, N.J.; Multnomah County, Ore.; and Sandoval County, N.M., during the brief periods when those localities illegally granted marriage licenses to homosexual couples.
Susie Kilpatrick, 30, of New Paltz, said the local Social Security office told her that no marriage documents from the town could be used to establish identity if they were issued after Feb. 27, when New Paltz's mayor began "marrying" homosexual couples. About 125 male-female couples have been married since then in the town.
Mrs. Kilpatrick said her marriage certificate was rejected when she went to get a new card earlier this month so she could take her husband's name.
"What concerns me is that the certificate is the only way to prove that we're married," she told the New York Times for yesterday's editions. "If something happens to us, or some other couple from New Paltz, we can't prove we're married. We would not be able to draw benefits."
The Social Security Administration did not respond to requests for comment from the New York paper. A call from the Associated Press for comment yesterday was not immediately returned.

This is EXACTLY what I was suggesting! It's the best solution by far. Deny federal benefits to everyone from any region offering same sex certificates!

It makes sense from a political standpoint. It puts a ton of pressure on those mayors who decided it was okay to break the law.

However, I feel sorry for those legally married couples. It somehow doesn't seem fair if their marriages don't count for Social Security Disability purposes because their elected officials illegally thought it was okay for a man and a man to elope.

Don't feel sorry. We're actually saving their societal benefits. They're going to be part of the solution, because their legitimate complaints will bring that pressure you mentioned to new levels.

It's a fight that will not come without some suffering and loss. It's cultural warfare and winning it will come with a price.

It makes me all the angrier at our press and educational institutions for tolerating and encouraging it.

By the way, this has nothing to do with "rights." Marriage benefits are a privilege that we bestow on traditional families. We're just witholding that benefit while we protect our ability to bestow it on traditional families.

Ditto...and besides it gives the couples an excuse to go to a romantic place and get remarried. Besides, who actually wants to get married in Asbury Park?

I presume that marriages can be resettled once the counties in question resolve their "indiscretions."

Right, they are doubly responsible. They should have impeached, recalled, or otherwise removed their unprincipled leaders and representatives who encouraged this nonsense. If they have to pay a temporary price for it, well let that be a lesson to others.

Right! I'll bet that some of them thought it was "funny" what their leaders were doing. And now that they have to pay the band they are singing a different tune.

I was astounded one day when someone told me I was oppressive and tantamount to a slaver when I said I didn't support this marriage business. It's dangerous now to admit this to anyone with whom you work. So they probably thought they were taking the easy way out! On the other hand, since when has anything related to raising a family been easy to obtain? Why would anyone believe that these resources should be divided among non-traditional family structures? They're basically stealing money needed by regular families in the form of taxes and tax breaks missed. The homo activists and their sympathizers are living on another planet. But watch out if you question their motivations in public!

It's time to bring back a little of the old homophobia. Now we know why it existed in the first place.

Heads should roll at the Social Security Administration.

Why? all licenses issued in those counties have to be considered questionable at best. The SSA is just protecting our tax moneys as they are required to do

But, there's this, if you read the rest of the article. The marriages in MA are being accepted:

" The agency posts rules on its Web site spelling out which documents can be used to obtain Social Security cards.
It accepts civil-union documents from Vermont and marriage licenses for homosexual couples in Massachusetts. Marriage certificates for homosexual couples from San Francisco, which were declared illegal, are not allowed. But the city's other marriage licenses are being recognized."
