DoD News Transcript (Positive Info on Armored Humvees Ignored by MSM)
Department of Defense ^ | 15December 2004 | Department of Defense

"The first point is that you'll recollect that one of the questions was the status of the 278 ACR; in other words, the date that we had the visit by the secretary of Defense, we had a question about their up-armoring status.  When the question was asked, 20 vehicles remained to be up-armored at that point.  We completed those 20 vehicles in the next day.  And so over 800 vehicles from the 278 ACR were up-armored, and they are a part now of their total force that is operating up in Iraq."

The day that the soldier asked SecDef Rumsfeld the question regarding the armored humvees, only 20 out of over 800 vehicles had not been armored. This fact was not mentioned by the MSM at the time and has not been brought to the attention of the public since it was announced at a press conference

I still don't understand that the fact the question was planted for effect did not make greater headlines. Also everyone jumped on Rummy for it true comment of going to war with what you have, not what you want.

The MSM suffers from the malady as the Left in general. Good news for Bush/America/troops is bad news for Left/MSM. The question hurt Bush, that's what is important, don't question it's providence.

The MSM is no longer relevent. It sings to the A.N.S.W.E.R. diciples. Who cares. Left wing-nuts, Michael Moore idolitors, socialist and marxist fruitcakes, and the mush filled heads of the easily led, all flock together under the loving wing of the entertainment industries 'gods'.

It's rather sad to watch, but then they do deserve each other.

Thanks for posting this....nice to get some facts....of course the media will be lax in telling the public about it.

It's just too complicated........will be the response.

It is obvious that the elitist left wing lunatics in politics and the media are suffering from severe hyper reactive cases of Rummy Phobia, the new disgusting mental disorder of the lunatic left.

Rummy Phobia appears to be a secondary mental illness to the Hate GW Syndrome suffered by millions of libs from 2000 to 2004 where GW was hated and blamed for everything that happened. Now, they blame Rummy for everything that has or has not happened in the Iraqi War.

Examples of Rummy Phobia can be seen on most of the current Rummy Phobia threads on Free Republic. The Moby Trolls of the left, who claim to be the greatest conservatives ever, leave examples of Rummy Phobia all over these Rummy Phobia threads.

Those inflicted by Rummy Phobia froth at the mouth, smell and behave like rabid skunks as they try to blame everything on Rummy while calling for his head.

"It's just too complicated"...and it makes it look as the the CinC and SecDef are actually providing for the troops. Can't have that.

One thing that they haven't mentioned when discussing the "mess" that Rumsfeld has made. When CinC GWB ordered him to go to war in Afghanistan and Iraq, SecDef R formulated a plan which won two wars in record time, liberated over 40 million people from tyrannical rule, has managed to limit civilian casualties to incredibly low numbers and lost a remarkably small number of American troops considering how much he has accomplished . Had a Democrat SecDef engineered this remarkable feat, he would be hailed as the next Eisenhower and the MSM propoganda machine would be in full gear grooming him for "bigger things". As it is, the Dems have John "I served in Viet Nam you know" Kerry and Wes "yep, even after all those dead Serbs, we're still in Bosnia" Clark as their paradigms of military success.

Okay, My unit is being replaced by the 278th and I have seen first hand their "up-armored" vehicles. Most have just sheets of metal wielded on the side that won't stop nothing. It is not the specifically designed add on armor.

And every soldier I have talked to in the 278, even the officers, think the soldier was right to ask the question.

Who said it wasn't a decent question....the complaint was the devious hand of the reporter who was involved to make certain it was a career enhancement action for him personally.

Ernest did you catch the double-speak about production at 550? The 550 figure is (March/April/May) from sources I have, but the funded production caps out in March. Then there is a residual 818 (Rumsfelds FY05 request which is finished by May. I'm not sure, but I think the production lines go quiet, which is kind of incredible since we stripped 4000 fully armored humvees from Kosovo, Korea and elsewhere to get them into Iraq. I wish the Army would just say, we didn't place the orders fast enough and we are not ordering enough because of funding, but they won't and they didn't and hundreds died this year because of it.

I had to turn off the news yesterday about 20 seconds after I clicked onto it. Apparently the latest Rummy flamefest is that he was not personally signing each condolence letter to families. Good grief, people, give it a rest. Sec. Rumsfeld has served honorably. Our nation is lucky to have him.

I think the army is missing a golden opportunity to get the funding and the equipment right. By claiming hillbilly armor is suddenly acceptable protection to get the media off their backs, they are tricking to public in to believing the the problem is resolved. No problem, no money. No money, no metal.

We have Rummy Phobia inflicted Freepers jumping on that mantra, "Rummy doesn't sign the letters when a military warrior is killed or wounded in Iraq!"

Except for the men left there exposed to mines, I'd agree with you. Bigger issue though is Korea and Afghanistan.
