I installed the last one atop the existing. It deleted in process of installation. I hate to think my computer would be vulnerable for the time (long time) of installation if I uninstall first. I had thought about it..

Ideally, prevail upon someone with a fast net connection to DL it for you and save it to a jump drive ( stick RAM ) or burn a CD. Failing that, try another computer somewhere else ( friend, work, library? ) and do the same.
It is probably just a poor, noisy, or slow dialup problem, but do be aware that some especially nasty types of malware will abort downloads of cures, sometimes even sever the net connection.

You won't get anything in the interim.

I have mentioned elsewhere that when/if perps are located they should be handled as terrorists. I think that is exactly what they are. Evil people causing problems, frustration, pain & yes terror to common folk just trying to enjoy life.

what is malware? Stuff I write? hehe. Even my wife calls me Mal since I've been Mal-something for going on 8 years now.
Malware is a generic term for stuff designed to comprimise your computer. Viruses, trojans, whatever.
Essentially it's just "MAL-icious soft-WARE"

Yup, we use spybot in conjunction with spyblaster, both free and both together eliminate all problems. Check for updates daily if possible. easily downloaded from the programs themselves
