Why would John Paul II have met with Anton LaVey?

My point exactly. Why meet with religious leaders who condemn your God and deny the divinity of Jesus Christ? What is the point? On its own, reason is incapable of bringing anyone to Jesus Christ.

The Pope's visits sound more like the gestures made by politicians. Jesus Christ was no politician. There wasn't a political bone in His Body.

Uh, Muslims constitute well over a billion of the earth's population. The Pope has made it a hallmark of his pontificate to reach out to world, and church leaders. His action reflected his desire to keep open the lines of dialogue.

You have no idea what actions might, and might not, bring others to Jesus.

Perhaps you forgot that Jesus reached out to Samaritans, who were the scum of society.
