It may be a decent issue if the mag has decided the blue counties' subscriber base isn't what's going to keep them in the...ahem, red :)

This has to be a Bush-bashing festival.

The TIMES ever writing anything positive about anything to the right of Lennin??

I don't believe for a second that their intent is positive for Bush.

Rather to invite a trillion or so negative responses.

Jonathan Alter (Newsweek) is on by phone with the C-SPAN host. Obama is on their cover and Alter is saying that Newsweek is trying to get a tradition started for who will be making news in the coming year.

What's that darn rag gonna do? Take away their birthdays? Or threaten not to allow their writers to appear? Gee, if the latter's the case, it would certainly be no loss.

FOFLOL!! Take away their birthdays? You're cracking me up.

Obama, huh? Heh heh heh. Obama might want to be careful what he wishes for. And depending on how sycophantic that story is, the same applies to Newsweek...

So far, Man of the Century.

I give the balance of my time on this thread to the FReeper from the great state of New Jersey.

I would like to think so, but they would lose the liberal subscriber base they have now, and how many conservatives would subscribe to TIME because of a decent issue about Bush as Man of the Year?

Your point is possible, but in my mind, it only works if they make a fundamental shift in their rag, from now on.

Hard for me to believe they would ever do that.

He said last year's selection was John Stewart.

How'd that work out for ya, Jonathon?

So far, no cursing over there.
The first posts seem to be rather pragmatic...so far.

I haven't seen their current circulation figs, but the last I knew their circulation figs were in decline. The blues weren't keeping them in the black. Unless that's changed, I'm thinking the rag may have decided to try to expand their subscriber base. If the article on 43 is fair and balanced, and fair and balanced articles follow, that's my take. FWIW :)

This comment below from a site I am a member of the day after Election Day sums up the tremendous odds Bush overcame and shows he should darn well be Man of the Year:

Overcoming the Greatest of Odds

Katie wore black two days in a row.

The odds that Bush-Cheney had to overcome on their road to victory were truly astounding:

The biased pollsters whose exit poll early on Election Day attemtped to influence the election in Kerry's favor.

The Marxist menaces like Michael Moore and Bruce Springsteen attempting to brainwash the young voters.

The lies by Kerry-Edwards over Social Security, the draft, health care, the munition dump, and every other topic out of Kerry's mouth.

The mainstream media, like Katie Couric, who could not contain herself in her grief following the Bush victory, as pictured above.

The Marxist professors threatening students with poor grades who did not follow their Marxist teachings.

Mary Poppins and Dick Tracey registering to vote--and much more voter fraud.

Crack cocaine being given to brain fried scumbags in return for registering under 100 plus names.

Hollyweird.

Dan Rather's counterfeit memos and Dan Rather's counterfeit attempt to be a journalist.

. . . and so many ignorant Americans who are void of knowledge about crucial issues. They blow whatever wind direction Kerry blows.

Yes, it was an uphill battle, but in the end, the anti-American traitor from Massachusetts and the flimflam lawyer from North Carolina were "Tom Daschled".

Robert Sentry, 11/3/04
