DELAWARE, Ohio -- A former soldier charged with beating up another soldier who was on leave from Iraq pleaded guilty Friday to a charge of felonious assault, NBC 4 reported.
Brent Cornwell
Brent Cornwell, of Blacklick, got into a fight with Foster Barton after a concert this summer. Barton, of Grove City, was on leave while he recovered from injuries he suffered in Iraq.
Cornwell told the judge Friday that the fight started after the two exchanged insults about the other's military unit.

In exchange for Cornwell's guilty plea, the prosecution and Barton's family recommended that Cornwell be sentenced to community control, which would require spending every weekend in jail for 52 weeks and the payment of restitution.
The judge, however, could sentence Cornwell to up to eight years in prison.
He will be sentenced at a later date.

When I first saw information about this I thought there might be a bit more to it.
Do you know which units we are talking about? The story doesn't mention them.
...
Fighting over units, eh? Sounds familiar. When I was in the USAF back in the late 60s, I went into a bar near the base I was stationed at, which happened to be an Army base. It was just after work, so I had my USAF khaki uniform on.
One drunk guy in an Army uniform chose me out, saying something to the effect that Air Force guys were wussies. He was obviously looking for a fight. I just said, "You're probably right. Want another beer?"
Took him a few seconds to recover, and I bought him a beer and went about my business. Sticks and stones...
LOL Great story.
I've followed this story since day one and was interviewed by our local media. Until now I didn't know the other guy was a soldier too. Perhaps it was reported and I just missed it...
Sorry, but I don't know.
Thanks. I found another thread that said Barton was 1st Cav. Don't know what the other guy was.
I just read in the Columbus Dispatch that Cromwell was honorably discharged:
Snippet:
Cornwell has said previously in court that he served four years in the Army and was honorably discharged.

I salute you for your service. You're one of the MAIN reasons we're the greatest country the world has ever known.
Thank you. Merry Christmas.
Wow . . . please ignore the following if you're of the male species.
You wanna get married? I'm old, ugly, poor, and my IQ barely registers . . . but I'm trainable.
LOL.
Seriously, it makes my tired, old heart proud to know we've got folks like you serving on our country's frontlines. God bless you and your family . . . and may He protect you if you get your wish to go back.
Drats. Must be my delivery. LOL.
My nephew is in Iraq so I KNOW something about Heroes.
YOU'RE ALL HEROES IN MY BOOK!
And please don't for one second think that because you're a "Reservist" that that fact changes your Hero status. In fact some could argue you're even Bigger Heroes because y'all willingly and repeatedly put your REAL life on hold to serve your country. I read or heard somewhere that 40% or so of our Forces are Reservists. We couldn't do the job without you, marmar, and I love and respect each and every one of you for protecting the freedoms I hold so dear.
Merry Christmas.
P.S. If you really want to rile an old man . . . refer to yourself as "just" a Reservist again. LOL.
OOOOOO......your feisty this early in the morning. It is just the opinion of many, that make me say just a reservist. Our (AF) deployments are much shorter then others, but I love the attitude of most the reservist, I serve with. I guess for reservist we are more mature and yes we are willing to go, if they let us. Jesus is the Reason for my season...........MERRY CHRISTMAS.........
