Mujahedin Cross Syrian Border (On the way out?)
UPI Hears ^ | Dec. 17, 2004 | UPI

Insider notes from United Press International for Dec. 17:

WASHINGTON, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- A European security think tank reports fresh movement of Islamist "volunteer" fighters on the Iraqi-Syrian border. But this time the mujahedin are not entering Iraq; they are leaving it. The Brussels-based European Strategic Intelligence and Security Center said in a study published this week that last month's coalition offensive against Fallujah destroyed the Sunni insurgents' main base and its ability to receive foreign volunteers and integrate them into the fighting. As a result many of the estimated 1,500 to 2,000 mujahedin -- mainly from other Arab countries but with a sprinkling of Europeans -- found themselves isolated and are heading back across the Syrian border. Some are going to Chechnya, but most are returning to their homes or places of residence. Thus a new generation of Islamist militants between the ages of 17 and 30 has emerged to strengthen the international Islamist front.

LOL

They had to find some way to make it sound like bad news. :)

I'm reminded of rats leaving a sinking Islamicist ship. Maybe it's working over there.

The mujihadeen have Post-Election Stress Syndrome (PESS); they were crushed to find out that President John Kerry will not be withdrawing troops...

Have to believe we have serious air recon, and humint resources out on the border. Not to mention a whole bunch of small sniper groups. These guys are not going home empty handed.

How difficult is it to capture these few thousands losers? The big problem is the MOSLEM population support and sympathize with them. The same thing with Osama bin Laden, with all the money we put on his head, the only explanation as why he is still surviving is because the Muslims love and protect him, AND HATE US!!!

After what happened today in Mosul(with the foreigners dragged from their car and one decapitated in broad daylight,) I think we should go and clean them out of there too, though they'll have farther to run (rat analogy made above) to get to the Syrian border.

Every bit of human behavior re-emerges somewhere and sometime.

..."...new generation of Islamist militants between the ages of 17 and 30..."...

The old generation hasn't fired off their nukes yet. They will.

The big problem is that the Iraqi population fear that they will end up shot in the head and laid along the roadside if they don't appear to support and sympathize with them.

They are turning tail and running home because they got to experience the USMC in full battle mode. Vastly different than ambushing trucks.

This is what I wonder about. I mean how many roads are there from Iraq into Syria? Do we have troops stationed along these exit/entry points. Perhaps my question is naive or uninformed.

Assuming those in retreat are heading back under the "cover of darkness" -- only perhaps to again return -- is there any reason an AC-130 gunship with night vision shouldn't do a bit of house-cleaning?

I say, Let the USMC go after 'em!!! The Syrians are also the enemy, the way I read the facts.

I think that would be just the right solution.
