ITHACA, N.Y. A nationwide poll finds nearly half of all Americans believe the U-S government should restrict the civil liberties of Muslim Americans.
The survey -- conducted this fall by Cornell University -- found that 44 percent favored at least some restrictions, while 48 percent said civil liberties shouldn't be restricted in any way.
Twenty-seven percent of the 715 respondents supported requiring all Muslim-Americans to register where they lived -- and 29 percent thought agents should infiltrate Muslim civic and volunteer groups.
The poll also found Republicans and people who described themselves as highly religious were more likely to support curtailing Muslims' civil liberties than Democrats or people who are less religious.
The executive director of the Muslim American Society says the news is disturbing, but not surprising.
With whom did herr hitler confer before WW2? See the mufti and the fuerher tete-a-tete:

While the koran exists, first they kill the Saturday people, then they kill the Sunday people.
It does not make me feel the least bit better that 10% of 1.3 billion people are jihadis in this world...
Actually because of their beliefs 1.3 billion people are
jihadis.
A lot of people seem to have a problem with asking 1.3 billion people to change their ways, yet those 1.3 billion
have no problem whatsoever DEMANDING that the remaining FIVE billion of us accept their Islamic domination.
Think about it.
Exactly. Deport them with a smile. Even give them one of those little bags of peanuts on the plane.
No need to hate it...just kill it!
This was obviously a mistake on the part of the missionaries!
They nearly made the same mistake in Russia and Ukraine ~ still, it was common for Mongol overlords to become Christian. The Mongols in Estonia and Finland were also frequently Christian, and I would suppose some of them were still around when the Protestant Reformation took hold throughout Scandinaia.
(Hint: I know a bit about the history of the peoples who speak Uralic-Altaic languages, or the apparantly related Finno-Ughric languages. A neighbor girl affiliated with a church in Northern Virginia traveled to Mongolia as a missionary and helped found the first Christian church ever approved, authorized or recognized by a government in Mongolia!)
(Note: A few years back National Geographic featured the Mongol Conquests. They featured Ghengis Khan's Christian grandson).
Then choose a side and enlist with us. This is war...
The question I responded to did not require that the entire Muslim population accept other religions. Therefore, I believe that my answer still stands.
As for your personal experience, that is regrettable. I however, have had a positive experience. One of my roomates last semester is a Muslim woman from Afghanistan. She headed an Afghan organization in Fremont, CA. She spoke out against terrorism, and the Taliban in particular and she will likely be part of the new Afghan government. She was not silent, she was on our side. As are others that I have met. She did not stab me in the back, or blow up our house.
Besides, if our President said that we are not at war with Islam, why would we intern and deport Muslims, since they would, by definition, not be our enemy? Our enemies are Islamic fundamentalist terrorists. And they should be killed or brought to justice. If we intern and deport Muslims here, what does that say to the governments that we are trying to build in Iraq and Afghanistan? What does that say to our troops who are trying to establish good relations with the populace while rooting out the terrorists. Why make their job even more difficult and dangerous? We need to think through the implications of policy as they relate to our strategic and national security goals.
Some of their claims are spurious. Others are well documented.
While you were asleep Jewish merchants were at work on the Silk Lord under the protection of the Mongols.
Do you think all of the folks traversing Afghanistan maintained "racial purity"?
Look, there's always Communism.
Once they become the majority (whether by birth or, ahem, attrition) dhimmnitide pretty much becomes the fait accompli.
BUMP for Nestorian Christians !
Yes. It is that thing behind it.
Your statement has ignited a firestorm further down the thread that's a bit incomprehensible. At the moment I'm aware of several Moslem families in my neighborhood with children IN the American military around the world. Still, I'm pretty sure none of them would approve of those children "singing holiday songs", particularly not "Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer", "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree", and others.
In fact, I know Christians who disapprove of their children singing any of these secular "seasons greetings" songs from the ACLU approved list. More than likely all the parents should have kept their kids out of that event unless appropriate songs were allowed!
I could add appropriate insults to the litany but they would be wasted.
Can the civil liberties of Mormon polygamists (multiple wives), Rastafarian (marijuana as a holy sacrament), Catholics (wine as a holy sacrament during Prohibition), or the Navajo and Huichol tribes (Peyote as a holy sacrament) be restricted?
