KARLA HOMOLKA is a ticking time bomb who is likely to kill again, according to a recent risk assessment by the National Parole Board. "The commission believes if (Homolka) was freed before the end of the sentence ... we are convinced you would commit an infraction that would result in the death or grave harm of another person," the Dec. 12 assessment obtained by the Toronto Sun states.
Homolka, 34, waived her last chance to fight for early prison release and will serve out her entire sentence which ends in seven months. She'll be free July 5, 2005.
"I can't believe she'll get out when they know she will kill again. It's absolutely beyond belief that our government places in jeopardy the lives of innocent Canadians," said Joe Wamback of the Canadian Crime Victim Foundation.
"We have seen so many murders by released psychopaths in this country. Why do we continue to make the same mistakes?"
The board says that although Homolka interacts well with other inmates, she is secretive and hasn't co-operated with reform programs.
'SERIOUS CONCERN'
Homolka has also refused to stop her correspondence with a male inmate at another institution in jail for "serious domestic violence."
"Maintaining this relationship gives us serious concern. You have a higher risk of repeating your past behaviour with contact with this prisoner," the board wrote.
Homolka has been refused early release by the board on three prior occasions. Each time they said she would repeat her crimes because she hasn't taken the program for sexual delinquents seriously and "the criminal elements of your personality are still present."
Det. Wil Tonowski of the Edmonton police high-risk offender unit has met with Homolka and says she has expressed interest in living in Alberta upon her release.
"We are keeping an eye on her if she is considering coming to Alberta. If the parole board believes she is likely to cause death, then we may apply a Section 8-10 recognizance -- a public disclosure of where she lives," Tonowski said.
Homolka received her 12-year sentence July 5, 1993 after pleading guilty to two counts of manslaughter for her part in the sex slayings of Kristen French, 15, and Leslie Mahaffy, 14. She testified against her ex-husband Paul Bernardo, 40.
Are you a woman or a man? If you didn't know she was a psychopathic killer, you might just invite her out for dinner!
You're correct and she also claimed she had acted under duress. Plainly B.S. from the evidence, but she is attractive and it worked.
This is the first I've heard of her correspondence with the inmate.
I hope she moves into an apartment near someone who is a member of the parole board that let her out. :)
Hildy, I think the reference is to the particular picture that seems to have caught a candid look into the real character behind her admittedly attractive face.
Both she and her husband were very attractive, but that photo does show the mask dropping from her facade.
Yep...
I was living in Toronto the whole time her husband Paul Bernardo (or Teal) was pursuing a career as a serial rapist. Then the two of them started kidnapping, imprisoning, raping, and murdering high school girls - beginning with giving a fatal dose of animal tranquilizer to Karla's little sister so they could both rape her in her parent's house. (Karla worked as a veterinary assistant).
What eventually happened is that the crown prosecutors cut a deal with her - very early in the investigation - in order to convict Paul, who they were convinced was the real culprit.
Then, after the deal was cut and the evidence started coming in, it became apparent she was not the innocent young thing they initially believed she was. Since the deal was already cut and the crown could not back out of it, they took the only action they could, which was placing a gag order on the press and on anyone involved in the case.
They attempted to prevent the public from finding out how badly they had screwed up. It didn't work. But Karla skated with a short sentence (Not that there are EVER any long sentences in Canada - 25 years is max.)
Yes - Karla is (or was) very attractive. Satan usually is.
What ever happened to the lawyer who held the videotapes back from the prosecution? I heard he was in some trouble for that. Never heard the result.
I left Canada shortly after the trial, and at that point I believe everybody - the crown included - was denying the existence of any videotapes (although there were certainly lots of rumors of the tapes).
but the govt had no recourse......
life will "find" her, if there is any justice in this world....
This woman is unusual in that both sides have an evil look.
She is a dispicable human being who aided and abetted her loathsome husband in their crimes. I disagree that she should be paroled. They killed strangers and her own sister.
When does the "STOP" valve come on?
I'll BBL, I have to cook.
Thanks for giving the sequence of deal/evidence. That makes more sense than totally buying a cartload of manure from her.
She is a sex serial killer. They have about a 100% rate of recomitting the same type of crimes. I think people should be concerned.
Anyone who assists in the rape murder of their own sister is a (coment removed to prevent me from being banned from FR)
Judging from the tone of your post, I can only suppose you're a 'public servant' or some other variant of the Liberal Party trough-lickers.
There should be trials of the 'public servants' responsible for this travesty.
This is so they can do more damage. You see, you just don't realize how much you truly need these socialists and their principles, so they re-release these animals to do more harm. Then the govt can swoop in to fix the problem, usually by taking more of your freedoms, and you will actually be grateful for it.
