PA reacts angrily to Sharon's speech
By KHALED ABU TOAMEH
Palestinian Authority officials have reacted angrily to Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's comments at the Herzliya Conference on Thursday night, saying he would not find a partner on the Palestinian side for his vision.
Echoing a sense of deep disappointment among the top brass of the PA in Ramallah, cabinet minister Saeb Erekat condemned Sharon's remarks as "self-deception."
"I didn't hear anything new in Sharon's speech," Erekat said.
"He only reiterated what he has said about his plan for a long-term interim solution. He wants to annex the settlements and Jerusalem and scrap the right of return for the refugees. He wants to maintain control over the land."
Erekat said that in light of Sharon's remarks, Israel won't find a partner on the Palestinian side.
"What Sharon is saying is that he wants to establish a Palestinian state in the Gaza Strip and 40 percent of the West Bank, without Jerusalem and without the right of return," he added. He also wants to keep the settlements. For this he won't find a Palestinian partner."
Erekat also dismissed Sharon's optimism in the aftermath of the death of Yasser Arafat. "Arafat was not an obstacle," he argued. "The obstacle is coming from those who are seeking to impose a solution on us. Sharon wants to dictate his terms to us and this is unacceptable. He's deceiving himself."
Erekat said the Palestinians would not accept any solution that does not include a full withdrawal to the pre-1967 borders, including Jerusalem, and a just solution to the issue of the refugees.
Referring to Sharon's statement that he had reached an agreement with US President George Bush about keeping large settlement blocs in the West Bank under Israeli rule and denying Palestinian refugees the right to return to their original homes inside Israel, Erekat said: "President Bush does not have the right to negotiate on behalf of the Palestinians. No force in the world would be able to impose a solution on the Palestinians."
Apparantly any Prime Minister who isn't willing to commit national suicide will not find a partner on the Palestinian side. I am glad our Prime Minister is no partner for terrorists.
Clue: we will never let millions of Palestinians into our country and we will never surrender Jerusalem. Live with it. That isn't just the Prime Minister's view. That is the view of the bulk of the Israeli people.
Yup!
And that's the view of us Zionist Christians who give our complete support to Israel also.
I'll back that position. The so-called "right of return" is simply suicide for Israel and Jerusalem is to important to turn over to this group that would have no problem destroying it.
Water is wet.
The Pope is Catholic.
Bears crap in the woods.
FRmail me to be added or removed from this Judaic/pro-Israel ping list.
WARNING: This is a high volume ping list
If they keep on, they will end up with nothing.
And that would not necessarily be a bad thing.
I'm liking it more already.
I'm not sure they know any other way to react.
I think the goal is to take over the lands Israelis have made prosper. If this was all barren waste like 150 years ago, there would probably be no problem.
Honestly, is there anything the Palestinians are NOT angry about. My gosh...maybe Israel could put some Prozac in their water or something.
"I didn't hear anything new in Sharon's speech," Erekat said.
Kind of like calling the kettle black, since the Israelis haven't heard anything new from the PLO either.
Well it's a done deal then...Negotiations are over...The Palestinians will continue to terrorize the Israelis...The Israelis need to respond with whatever it takes to eliminate the terrorists...All of them...
If this a-hole really believes that arafart was not an obstacle, then he's too stupid for words. And he's also delusional if he thinks that the so-called palis are on an equal footing with Israel when it comes to negotiating. Israel owes these savages nothing.
Oh great! As if they're not always accusing Israel of putting crap in their water, air, etc.!
LOL!!!!
I'm serious!
If the Palestinian Authority reacts cheerfully to Sharon's speech...
That would be news.
I know!
