Christians Face 47 Years in Prison Because Philly Judge Calls Bible Verses

Appeal to the Supreme Court last hope for Christians

“First, symbols of Christianity are removed from the public square; now, Christians are facing 47 years in prison because they preached the gospel in the public square. Stalin would be proud,” – Brian Fahling, AFA Center for Law and Policy Senior Trial Attorney.

Tupelo, MS - After a federal appeals court denied an emergency appeal to stop prosecution of 11 Christians on Tuesday, Philadelphia Municipal Court Judge William Austin Meehan ordered four of the Christians to stand trial on three felony (criminal conspiracy, ethnic intimidation, and riot) and five misdemeanor charges. If convicted, they could face up to 47 years in prison.

The Christians were arrested on October 10 for praying, singing, and reading scripture during an annual “gay pride” event known as “Outfest” in Philadelphia.

Since the federal courts did not intervene to halt the state prosecution, the last route for the Christians would be an appeal to the Supreme Court says the Christians’ attorney Brian Fahling, senior trial attorney for the American Family Association Center for Law & Policy.

“First, symbols of Christianity are removed from the public square, now, Christians are facing years in prison because they preached the gospel in the public square. Stalin would be proud,” Fahling said.

The federal appeals court in Philadelphia denied emergency relief despite video footage Fahling calls “undisputed evidence” that shows the Christians cooperating with police and continually being harassed by the Pink Angels, a group of homosexuals organized to impede the gospel message. Philadelphia city prosecutor in the case, Charles Ehrlich, attacked the Christians as “hateful” and referred to preaching the Bible as “fighting words,” the judge agreed.

Charges were dropped against the remaining seven apparently because they were not seen quoting scripture on the videotape.

The Philadelphia case represents another example of discrimination toward Christians,” said Tim Wildmon, president of the American Family Association national headquarters. “The past month has poured forth cases of Christian persecution seen in the higher education institution, public school systems, and the judicial court system.”

"Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under your feet and turn again and rend you."

This bears repeating. Facing the prospect of forty-seven years in prison would certainly be enough to rend my soul.

Did they have crowbars and other buglerous tools hidden in the hollowed out nooks of their Bibles? Or are the bibles themselves going to be offered as exhibits in the trial?

An excerpt from "If all else fails, silence them! Homosexuals seek 'thought crime' legislation"

"... Homosexual activists cannot win the theological debate, nor will medical science, biology, history or common sense support their deadly, tragic and changeable behavior. So they are reduced to accusing their opponents of "hatred" and silencing those brave enough to speak about the consequences of sexual anarchy on children, the family and society..."

You never know. If even one or two homosexuals start considering deep in their hearts whether God exists, and whether the "gay" life is a good path or not, good has been done.

Should people cower in their closets, afraid to speak the truth for fear that somewhere, someone may get offended? Is there a right to not be offended? What about disgusting "Gay Pride" parades? They're offending thousands every time they happen.

Have you ever seen any footage from one of them or been there in person? Mrs lj got stuck in front of one (traffic was stopped in its honor) in SF. Men wearing nothing but a few leather straps studded with spikes, leading LITTLE BOYS on chains behind them or carrying them on their shoulders. Faux and REAL sodomy happening right there in public. You think that's fine and dandy, but some people holding signs and speaking verses from the Bible shouldn't be allowed?

...all of a sudden care about free speech and free assembly now that people they like are on the short end of the stick.

Of course they'll be right back hooting and hollering in joy just as soon as cops give protesters they don't like the "wooden shampoo".

They think (I guess you can call it that) that rights can be taken from others without losing their own in the process. The logical disconnect is amusing, to say the least.

Ain't that the truth? Hear, hear!

I think this is Philadelphia, MISSISSIPPI, not Pennsylvania.

It's ironic how behaviors prevelent in the South 40 YEARS AGO are now common TODAY in the North.

What do you think is required for something to be a "religion"?

Certainly not a sexual perversion. Wouldn't you agree?
And I wouldn't categorize Religion as a something to be made up.

I don't want to be misunderstood into saying that religious protest is never appropriate and that Christians should be cowards who never express their opinions on controversial issues. I'm just saying that some times, places, and ways are better than others, and that these confrontational demonstrations rarely do any tangible good. As for the specifics of this case, it's possible the law is overreacting here, but it's also possible that the protest was a little more aggressive than was portrayed in the original presentation.

Those promoting and supporting evil bear responsibility as well. As I mentioned above, was Hitler not guilty for the murders of Jews because he only authorized it, didn't do the killing himself?

It's self evident.

He was a nutcase, hired a known pedophile to molest and rape children and get back to him with the "findings", filmed his own porno, considered that sex with animals was normal, used primarily prisoners and other odd groups for his "10%" figure, used more "research" from a Nazi pedophile. It goes on and on.

Okay, with the exception of the "considered sex with animals was normal", shouldn't any researcher worth his salt be inquiring about the abnormal sexual activity as well?

Yet they were charged with criminal conspiracy, possession of instruments of crime, reckless endangerment of another person, ethnic intimidation, riot, failure to disperse, disorderly conduct and obstructing highways.

Those are the charges. And I read a lot about this case, know one of the people who was there that day, one of the 7 released. The followed the word of the law to the letter. The only rioting etc that took place was by the homosexuals. Furthermore it's all on tape. The did nothing, not even shout. They ignored all the homosexual's taunts, spitting, everything.

How can 11 people do all that is listed above in the charges? I hope this case gets a lot of attention, so the entire nation can be outraged. Since when is a Bible, an instrument of a crime? What these homosexuals did that day should have had every one of them arrested, and smoke bombs set off.

Was Hitler less guilty because he didn't personally torture and kill any Jews?

Bingo.

Living in Seattle, I'm well aware of what goes on at "gay pride" parades. But see my post #152 for my opinion on Christian protest. I've written - and had published - many letters to the editor on gay rights and other issues of concern to Christians, so I'm not afraid to take a public stand.

I agree. Time is getting very ripe, ready for the thrusting in of the sickles and the reaping........

Rev 14:14 And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud [one] sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle. (15) And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe. (16) And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped. (17) And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle. (18) And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe. (19) And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast [it] into the great winepress of the wrath of God.

When (not if) Christianity is outlawed, will they have enough evidence to convict you?
