God bless Hillary Clinton
The Washington Times ^ | December 15, 2004 | Tony Blankley

Posted on 12/15/2004 9:05:11 AM PST by CDB

I never thought I would write the following words, but: God bless Hillary Clinton. Though her motives are cynical, their effects may well be vital both to our national security and to our sovereign responsibility to control our borders. Republican presidents and congressional leaders have for years effortlessly and painlessly given short shrift to conservative Republican congressmen calling to secure our borders and end massive illegal immigration. But they ignore Hillary at their mortal peril. Immigration and border legislation in 2005 is likely to be the last chance the Republicans have to put their stamp on those issues. Their failure to do so would: 1) give Hillary three years to champion such Buchananite reform; 2) visibly split the Republican Party on the issue; 3) thereby undercut the Republican unity President Bush will need to pass his Social Security and Tax reforms, and 4) set up Hillary to patch together an unlikely, but formidable, electoral coalition of disenchanted border-security Republicans and main street Democrats for the 2008 campaign. As Hillary knows better than most, politics makes strange bedfellows.

She is an attorney. Some attorneys take whatever cases land in their laps. Other attorneys have guiding olfactory principles and refuse cases now and then because of the smell. If Hillary is sniffing around something it is probably like National Healthcare--a way to increase the power of the State.

Lord please do not make me vote for a dem. The big problem is will she actually do something about the problem or just lie to get into office.

I hate to say this but the reps have had control of all three offices and things are not changing.

Watch dems get the memo and start the campaign. Illegal immigration must be slowed or stopped and good jobs must be brought back to America. Even if its not hellary it will be someone else who takes this stance.

She is playing both ends against the middle. I for one, am not about to fall for her crap no matter how pretty she wraps it up and puts a bow on top.

She is a dyed in the wool leftist. Always was. Always will be.

Where is Hillary's legislation regarding any aspect of this problem?

Indeed, that was my first thought. It will take more than platitudes to sell people on the idea that Hillary is a born again immigration hawk. Still, she is clever and ruthless enough to support such measures and run against her party on the issue if she thinks it will win her the White House. And it might well.

She could also argue that the present laws are simply not being enforced, which is true enough. When Reagan signed the amnesty program in the 80's penalties were put in place for employers who hired illegals. A few years later the Justice Dept. completely stopped enforcing that law. There have been almost zero prosecutions since. That's because both Pub and Rat congress critters complained about enforcement hurting local businesses who like the cheap labor. Enforcing those laws would make a huge difference. If employers see that hiring illegals could put them out of business, you would see a big change.

"I suspect this will be the biggest "hot button" in the next presidential election and there is no way I want to see sHillery have a better plank than whomever the Republicans nominate."

I think Hillary knows she's going to have trouble among the blue collar union voters (particularly men), and she's going to use this issue to appeal to them, and offset any losses by picking up disenchanted conservatives in border states. Winning Florida, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona would go a long way toward offset losses in Michigan or Wisconsin.

I had been hopeful because the RINO field seemed very crowded for 2008, with Giuliani and McCain fighting it out, as well as Romney, Hagel, and Pataki. But if the MSM goes after Giuliani (as they are doing right now with the Kerik stories), and that RINO field narrows, McCain could have a good chance, unless conservatives unite behind a single candidate to challenge him (as happened in 2000.) I think the MSM is going to clear the RINO field for McCain, their golden boy.

Interesting question... McCain v. Hillary.... who'd win Arizona if Hillary is anti-amnesty, and McCain is pro-amnesty?

The President is not having a good week. He needs to straighten up his act. I'm the last person in the world that wants to regret his decision on the person he voted for.

How could anybody possibly believe one word, JUST ONE WORD that the leninist, lesbian, legally-challenged liar has to say ???

China-gate, travel-gate, cattle futures-gate, Foster-gate, billing records-gate, White House secret police, 900 FBI files, etc., etc., etc.

Interesting things are happening in Suffolk County, New York (on Long Island.) They have a new Democratic county executive, who is taking a hard line against illegals and is talking about using the local police for enforcement. He has gotten a lot of media coverage, including an unusually unbiased story about illegal immigration from the NY Times. Watch for Hillary to jump on his bandwagon. I wouldn't be surprised if she already had a secret deal for him to give her some credit, in return for some sort of appointment if she wins.

It's sad that it takes HRC to get us to the correct side of an issue. Geeze.

Personally, I see uncontrolled and illegal immigration as large a threat to the nation as active terrorists, unfortunately, it appears to be on a back burner....on an old stove......in the woods......where Bigfoot roams.

Immigration issues and border control issues must be addressed now.

If Hillary really adopts a strong anti-immigation policy, arguing that illegals drive down wages for average working Americans and hurt social services for "the children" (which is quite true and something I could definitely see her doing), and the Pubs run a business as usual candidate, she will win big in many red states with big illegal populations like AZ, NV, NC, etc.

This is a red herring. She is using immigration as a campaign ploy to steal Conservative votes. If she does get in she will never mention immigration again and she will resume her communist manifesto. What Hillary does is put the border issue in the spotlight making it impossible for Republicans to ignore. The election is in 4 years I guarantee there will be conservative candidates pushing for strict border policies. The republican primaries will be fun

Before we say anything positive about Hillary "Will-Say-Or-Do-Anything-To-Elected-President" Clinton's motives, let's re-read Peggy Noonan's recent article:

It's my guess she doesn't believe that she will have to back up her position with such things as votes on tough issues. Who doesn't agree that our borders shouldn't be better secured or that business' shouldn't hire illegal immigrants? Let's see where she goes when the issue becomes deportation, elimination of social services and the rest of factors that make this such a political hornet's nest.

"Hillary Rodham Clinton... For a Stronger, Middle Class America"

She can work off John Edward's "two Americas" theme, and argue that illegals are hurting the middle class, and benefitting the businesses and wealthy people that employ them. And there's some truth there. Look at how the middle class has been driven out of southern California, as illegals have pressured wages for the average person, and housing prices/quality of life in working/middle-class neighborhoods.

It's a powerful "you v. the elite" message. She can run against the elite that favors cheap labor and political correctness.

And that's not even getting into the national security arguments for border security.

We need a nominee who is on the right side of this issue, as she will trample right over a RINO with no conservative principles.
