I am a civilian employee that works for the Army in Seoul, Korea. I posted on a thread here a few weeks ago, trying to get some enthusiasm to provide some calling cards to the troops up on the Korean DMZ. I didn't get a lot of reaction. Should I try again? I have coordinated with a local chaplain and with the Yongsan Sergeant Major's Association and both are willing to assist me in this effort. If any Freepers are interested in participating, you can send me a private reply and I'll provide more info.
The site listed on this thread should be able to help you. Also, try bumping your old thread and cross-linking the two threads.
ES, I am aware of the AAFES calling cards. I use them to call my kids in the USA. I'm trying to spark some enthusiasm from FReepers to provide some funding for calling cards for guys on the DMZ. It seems that Iraq and Afghanistan are saturated with support. Thought I'd try to do something for these guys.
I'm 1-1 1/2 hours south of the DMZ.
Let's ping as many people as we can. They can have the cards sent c/o you or the base.
I know this is an unusual ping for the SP list, however, it's for a good cause. Also, please check out the request of conshack (posts 3 & 5).
Thank you, very much for your time! :)
I have a calling card That I am willing to give to a GI. I don't have much money and can't just buy a card at this time. How about a way to give the numbers of our pre-paid calling cards to our heros?
A bunch of us in another forum are putting together a big mailing to one of our guys, who's in Afghanistan (I think Bagram). Does anyone know definitively if those guys need calling cards? Or are there military comms in place, for them to call home?
CS-
sorry I missed your previous post. the troops on the DMZ are protecting our freedoms, too. they just aren't in the headlines, at least as of yet.
let me know what I can do. looks like you made my Christmas list.
the crow.
Assume that they need cards. :)
Bump for the troops. :)
Thank you. Nice link. :)
I can't *believe* one of the Long Disatance Services hasn't gotten the idea of offering free calls home to soldiers in Iraq.
