RE: Whale and dolphin watching . . . I'd love to do that! So would my daughter, the future dolphin trainer/zookeeper/vet. :-)
They sure are. Did you see the photo of Laura on Saturday where she was just overjoyed to welcome her husband back home after his physical at Bethseda? Remarkable for two 58-year-old to still be so "frisky" with each other.
Have you ever been to the Festival of Lessons and Carols at King's College Chapel on Christmas Eve? I listen to a shortwave broadcast each year that's on a local Public Broadcasting Radio station, and it is just lovely. I was thinking I'd love to come over to England for Christmas one year just to be there to hear it. Do they sell tickets or do you just stand in line hoping to be close enough to the front of the line to make it in that year?
Sounds truly breathtaking -- and peaceful. I wish you all the best in your new home. G'night. "See" you tomorrow.
You know I can't think of any other president who was quite like him. There were some great ones but he is in a category of his own. Thanks for sharing about that great business...I think I like significant better!
RE: snow . . . pretty while it's falling, IF you don't have cattle to feed out in far off pastures, with the windchill -30 degrees or less. :-) (Actually, my husb. is the one outside, and he doesn't mind the cold as much as I do. My job is to warm him up when he comes in.)
It's fun for a few days or hours (shorter as I get older!) I'm one who hates to wear boots/heavy coat/ etc. I'm generally VERY happy when spring comes around . . .
During the winter when I shop or go out people are always saying "Where is your coat?" because I leave it in the vehicle when I go into stores. So I'm cold a lot--haha! But the changing seasons are a nice part of living in the heartland . . .
:-)
I'm sorry about your friendship. Unfortunately, some friendships just have to end, painful as it is. I had a close friend for many years, and recently decided not to continue it. It was not as dramatic as your situation, just that her values have become different than mine, and at this point she's just being my 'friend' because she wants to look good by getting antoher nurse for the hosp/nursing home she is Director of Nursing at. It's hard, but sometimes best to just let it go. I'm fortunate in that we're still "friends" and I'm just letting the friendship end by not working to continue it.
IMHO you did/are doing the right thing. There is no point in trying to convince her; she is not in the least bit interested in your opinion or the truth in any way. Sadly, not worth your time and energy. I'm sorry.
Believe me, I have no respect for them. I just feel sorry that they are soooo deluded. But then again I get really mad when I see that all they want is for "their" rules to apply . . . "Their" rules and opinions to count, et.c
Did "we" act like this when Clintoon, an admitted liar and cheater, was re-elected?!?!?!/ I think not. We got on with life and did something. THEN . . . we made darn sure that the "right" person got elected . . . and re-elected!!!!!!
RE: friends and liberals . . . hang in there . . . sounds like you have 'good' friends who are at least willing to listen to you . . . and I think you're going to make a BIG difference in the world with your point of view and the positive, sensible way you come across. :-)
You can say that again. My older sister is gaga over him. I bought Tommy's book, "American Soldier", and while I was in Tucson over Thanksgiving, she hijacked it from me.
I have 2 "liberal" friends. With one I won't discuss politics at all. She doesn't hate the president, but she's a very close minded person who doesn't want her lack of knowledge challenged . The other friend and I have some pretty spirited debates and we make bets on our political predictions. We both love orchids and grow them and love going out to good restaurants, so we bet dinners and orchids. I bet her that by July 15 of 2005 that Iraq will have their elections, Laura will have visited and talked to the women of Afghanistan and that the Iranian people will have an uprising and demand democracy. I'm pretty confidant she will owe me an orchid for my first prediction!
Maybe part of the dims obsession with the past is that they don't want to face the problems of their beliefs and the whole Dim. party.
My MIL complains and complains about my FIL and their problems, but I've come to the conclusion she is comfortable in her misery and wouldn't know what to do without his/their problems. She SAYS she wants to change, she reads books about their problems and how to change, they go to counselors, meetings, workshops, etc., etc., etc. . . . but when it comes to actually CHANGING, they just cannot do it.
Very similar to the dims . . . talk about how bad it is, talk about how bad the Pres. is, talk, think, bitch, moan, make plans, send emails, complain, blame others, etc., etc., etc. . . . but never actually DO anything about the situation.
The would completely lose their identity if they did anything positive aobut the problems, and got rid of the problems.
I'm glad you said that, kayak. I agree.
Youngest daughter got a chance to meet him and ask him a question when he was in town here, and he explained the situation.
The MSM uses any chance it gets to cause trouble in this administration. It's pathetic.
Thanks so much for your well wishes. Peaceful . . . that's what we pray for.
Sweet dreams to you and THANKS for the wonderful Dose!
Is "American Soldier" a good book? I'm usually not into biographies, but really do like Tommy Franks.
My schedule is beyond belief right now, and I haven't even had time to BREATHE until now, let alone post a thread.
So THANKS again!!
(Beautiful job again!)
Regarding your question about did we act like this when Clintoon was reelected, I did somewhat.
I remember telling someone that he wasn't my president.
Then I ignored him and quit watching the news until the election of 2000.
I didn't speak about him [X42] except to my beloved.
I'm not ashamed of it either, he wasn't worthy to sit in the president's chair.
It's a great book, I couldn't put it down!
We were JUST talking about having our Christmas over there some time during the four years she's studying there......
(Maybe we can meet up.... :o)
