TODAY'S HIGHLIGHT: GWB awarded the nation's highest civilian honor -- the Presidential Medal of Freedom -- Ambassador L. Paul "Jerry" Bremer, former CIA Director George Tenet, and retired U.S. Army General Tommy Franks.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: General Tommy Franks was raised in Midland, Texas -- nothing wrong with that. (Laughter.) I didn't know him then, but Laura and he went to the same high school. In those days, some people in Midland wondered about Tommy's future. It sounds familiar. (Laughter.) At a recent high school reunion, Tommy's old principal told the General, "You weren't the brightest bulb in the socket," to which the General replied, "Ain't this a great country?" (Laughter.) -- President George W. Bush, Presidential Medal of Freedom Ceremony, 12/14/04
Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island.
I agree completly. I also trust the President's reasons for presenting the medal.
Is it like a supermarket or does it only sell food?
Columbus is the land of mega-stores.
I have WalMart, Meijer, Kroger and Giant Eagle all literally within 3 minutes of my house.
I live less than 4 miles, as the crow flies, from the Pacific
I am closer to the Pacific. Early in the morning
I hear the horns of the cruise ships coming in to dock
We have several of the Holland lines, and many others.
If front of my apt. when I look south I see part of the
bay.
I hate to laugh at them but here goes-HA HA HA!
I have a couple of friends who I DIDN'T lose contact with that I find impossible to talk to anymore because they know I'm such a Bush fan.
The best thing I can tell you is to let it go. If you're being civil and someone else isn't, there isn't anything you can do about it I guess...
Here is an exterior shot of a similar store:
These stores also sell clothing, hardware, toys, furniture, dishes, etc. and are usually open 24 hours a day.
She lied. You have a different opinion than she does and liberals just can't handle that. Sorry it didn't work out but better to find out right away and not waste time. There are none so blind or deaf as those who refuse to see and hear.
Prairie
Wow, I've never been to a Meijers that was so un-crowded!
They must be there at 2am!
:0)
Thanks. I jumped in at the end of this thread. Did I read correctly that you had an encounter with Dubya? I read your post and assumed you were talking about our Dubya.
You must be on cloud nine.
I've been lucky enough to have a few encounters with our beloved Prez, but that was my first and favorite!
Well, reading your post where you described that meeting really cheered me up, and I needed it after reading the nastygram I posted about. Thanks.
I don't feel sorry for them. They cause their own misery. Nevermind facts, rules, laws. If the universe doesn't fit to their liking, they throw a hissy fit. I have little to no respect for them.
They are supposed to be our countrymen for Pete's sake. I'm ashamed to have to call them that. Narcisstic ill-mannered brats that couldn't be counted on in a pinch if your life depended on it.
/off rant :^)
I am going through a similar experience. My best friend (for the last 8 years) and I ended up on opposite ends of the political spectrum. We met when we were 13. Recently, she sent me an article about the Bureau of Land Management and how they were slaughtering wild horses in Nevada and asked me my opinion about it. She promised she just wanted to try to understand things from my point of view. I told her I didn't believe the article and she got furious at me and said that wasn't an opinion and that she was blocking me from sending her e-mails. I desperately don't want to give up on our friendship. We've been best friends for so long. But I'm not sure that we'll make it. We have a mutual best friend who, unfortunately, has been put in the unpleasant position of moderator. She's been trying to help us work things out. (Her latest e-mail hasn't been the only problem we've had in recent months.) I wish I could tell you that everything will work itself out. I don't know what's going to happen with me and my sorta-maybe-kinda best friend. Right now, I'm just trying to accept that whatever happens is for a reason. If she wants to lose an eight year friendship because she doesn't like my opinion then there's not much I can do about it. You might want to wait and see if your friend calms down but I have the feeling that people like your friend and my friend aren't ever going to get over President Bush winning re-election.
My pleasure!
Actually I needed a big cheering-up today which is why I came here! It made me feel great to just remember it.
I understand they are hyper or supermarkets like our ASDA (owned by Walmart), Tesco, Morrisons (Safeways) and Sainsburys.
Isn't that the most ridiculous thing you ever heard?
I'm SO jealous!! Are his eyes as beautiful in person as they look in pictures? Better? What about the hair? Was it fluffy then? I want DETAILS!!! :)
That's a tough situation.
It's weird how different people are. The friends I have lost over this election (as silly as that is!) were pretty moderate dems. I managed to keep a great friend who is insanely anti-Bush (she's Green Party). I think it's the individual in most cases that determines if we can get along.
