Adolf Hitler was a fan of Mickey Mouse, according to the son of the Fuehrer's architect Albert Speer.
Albert Speer junior said he spent time in the dictator's Obersalzberg residence watching his collection of Mickey Mouse films while his dad worked on projects such as the Nuremburg Rally and the failed Nazi master-city Germania with Hitler.
"Hitler had his own cinema and we would go there and watch his Mickey Mouse films. As kids, we were fascinated by them," Speer said in an interview with German magazine Galore.
He added: "I'd be lying if I said Hitler watched them with us. But they were his films, that much is true."
When asked how he remembered Hitler, Speer junior said: "I don't have any special recollection of him, just as a kind of uncle."
Dead? I didn't even know he was ill!
I don't know if it was his favorite, but Hitler reportedly really liked "The Lives of a Bengal Lancer" (1935) starring Gary Cooper. Apparently, the portrayal of the Bengal Lancers gave him ideas that were later incorporated in the training of the Waffen SS.
Little Albert, Jr. und Uncle Adolf
Aha!! It's all coming together now.... Hitler - Disney - Halliburton - Bush. I knew it! I knew it!
He's dead Jim.
Because it's the first time in 4 years that a newspaper article containing the word "Hitler" did not also contain the word "Bush".
Mark
I knew there was something annoying about the guy.
He's dead Jim.
*smacking forehead* Of course! Now it all makes sense. He must have been wearing a red shirt!
Obvious logical fallacy. Hitler also abstained from tobacco. All we can say with certainty is that All tea-totaling vegetarians who shun tobacco are Nazis. I hope you appreciate this course in formal logic.
I see, that´s why he prohibited playing this movie in the cinemas of the Reich. HE WANTED IT ALL ALONE EXCLUSIVELY FOR HIM! Whatabastard!
Walt Disney put huge amounts of money into WWII propaganda films. There is a DVD set of all the WWII shorts available, Walt Disney Treasures - On the Front Lines (1943) which is really entertaining to watch.
Save the Kitchen Fat!!
If we reall want to be accurate maybe we should ammend that to "All tea-totaling vegetarians who shun tobacco and have one testicle are Nazis," don't you agree?
Walt Disney was too young to serve in WW-I. He did serve as an ambulance driver in France at age 16, by lying about his age. He was very patriotic, rumors to the contary notwithstanding. http://www.snopes.com/disney/waltdisn/discharg.htm
LOL, you got me. ><
I see, sir, that you are a true student of dialectics.
Worse. His nickname was Mickey but his real Hebrew name was Moishe.
