Please help with this one.
Damn, just damn. Specialist David Mahlenbrock was killed by an IED on December 3rd in Kirkuk, Iraq.
I received this email via Soldier's Angels. It's from David's Squad in Bravo, 65th Engineers and they are forwarding a request from David. It appears that David had a special letter sent to his squad in the event of his death. Hold on to your seats, folks:

On December 15, 2004, at one EST, My Father in law will be buried. He was 89 years old,his decorations include, Distinguished Service Cross, Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Stars, Legion of Merit, Bronze Stars, Presidential Distinguished Unit Citation. He was a veteran of WWII, Korean and Vietnam. It would please me, to hear the sounds of "American Solider" humming in the background somewhere, while my Father-in-Law, a retired colonel is laid to rest with a military funeral also.
I'm just trying to be a father,
Raise a daughter and a son,
Be a lover to their mother,
Everything to everyone.
Up and at 'em bright and early,
I'm all in my business suit,
Yeah, I'm dressed for success
from my head down to my boots,
I don't do it for money,
there's still bills that I can't pay,
I don't do it for the glory,
I just do it anyway,
Providing for our future's my responsibility
Yeah I'm real good under pressure,
being all that I can be,
And I can't call in sick on Mondays
when the weekends been too strong,
I just work straight through the holidays,
And sometimes all night long.
You can bet that I stand ready
when the wolf growls at the door,
Hey, I'm solid, hey I'm steady,
hey I'm true down to the core,
And I will always do my duty,
no matter what the price,
I've counted up the cost,
I know the sacrifice,
Oh, and I don't want to die for you,
But if dyin's asked of me,
I'll bear that cross with an honor,
'Cause freedom don't come free.
I'm an american soldier, an american,
Beside my brothers and my sisters
I will proudly take a stand,
When liberty's in jeopardy
I will always do what's right,
I'm out here on the front lines,
sleep in peace tonight.
American soldier, I'm an American,
An American,
An American Soldier.
I'll definitely call my radio stations, and have them play it...they will be proud to do it!!
Maybe sometime tomorrow, I can call the local radio stations here too, I know they would not mind playing it also.
I'm so sorry to hear about your father in law! :( A true hero, and may he rest in peace! Prayers for you and your family!!
I have KOGO, home of Roger Hedgecock (fill in for Rush). I'm sure he'll be happy to play it. I'll forward this to him and place a call.
Thank you Ros42, we sure could use some!
Sending your family prayers. My father died Nov. 2 at 87 years old. It still hurts.
