White people, especially white males, were depicted as something close to the plague, to be avoided or at least isolated. That is why the promotion of Philip Bennett, "who is white," to the position of the paper's number 2 editor was so controversial. But listen to this: National reporter Darryl Fears, "who is black," was quoted as saying that Bennett's promotion over Eugene Robinson, "who is black," confirmed his "worst suspicions" about "the ability of African Americans and other minorities to rise to the highest level of the best papers in the world."

Good post about the bad Post. People complain about the New York Times and Dan Rather, but the Washington Post is also dreadfully liberal. It is drenched with political correctness, filled with gay propaganda nearly every day, runs endless stories about blacks struggling under white racism, past and present, and puts conservative Christians in the back of the bus.
When tired of bashing the New York Times, consider bashing the Post.

Post executive editor Leonard Downie, Jr. told staffers that, of the paper's 30 to 40 top editors, "white males are in the minority."

Considering the racist cartoons that depict Condi Rice as 3/5 of a human appearing in papers like the Washington Post. Should any of these reporters be suprised?

It must be very difficult for "both sides" at the washington Post--and in the bureaucratic realm everywhere--to have to use this tortured language in order to accuse that race is behind a promotion of one person over another and also in order to defend that decision in the "politically correct" nonesense-speak of the contemps.
How much simpler to see it as a good choice or a bad choice by the people in charge. If this guy who has been there so long feels underappreciated in terms of advancement==then go somewhere else. Life and our language would be so much better.

Maybe the Post should adopt the policy at my company. We hire the best person for the job. They could be purple with yellow poka dots, doesn't matter. We are evil capitalist, we just want to make money.
