Sen. Clinton against illegal immigration [By primary-time, she'll belong to the NRA]

Washington, DC, -- Sen. Hillary Clinton's hard-line against illegal immigration is seen by some as the Democrat's attempt to solidify support for a 2008 presidential bid.

Clinton, D-N.Y., who has received the liberal moniker for her efforts as first lady in the 1990s, may be trying to win support in conservative states by coming out against illegal immigration, the Washington Times reported Monday. In fact, the paper reported, Clinton's stance is more conservative than President Bush's, calling for an entry and exit ID system for immigrants.

"However free trade was a Clinton hall mark which is something Moore detests."

It was a hallmark because it probably polled well in some focus group in 1992 with some group of "swing" voters.

These people have no principles, other than reading an opinion poll.

Of course, on this issue, I wish our President would read an opinion poll.

The Clintons know Moore is poison and I think Hillary will attack him to further position herself to the center.

"The Clintons know Moore is poison and I think Hillary will attack him to further position herself to the center."

You may be right. But I think they are smarter than to just attack him. If they go after him, they'll do something to entirely discredit him. Expose him for some huge fraud, etc. The Clintons aren't so dumb just to write off his band of followers to a third party.

Notice that Bill Clinton never suffered from a third party challenger. Only Al Gore, Bob Dole, and George H Bush.

I'm still wondering if all these anti-immigrant stories (which she may be planting with the media) are a head fake, to encourage a third-party, anti-immigrant candidate (who also might be pro-life and balanced budget) to run against a Giuliani or McCain in 2008, and then she will switch back to a pro-immigrant stand and win with 40-45%.

"I agree on the need for a pro-border control candidate for the GOP."

I think it is too late, the public has associated open borders with the GOP, and since Bush is aggressively pushing another illegal give away, the GOP's goose will be cooked in 2008. Also add to that bigger and bigger trade deficits, bigger and bigger budget deficits one might come to the conclusion that the GOP is unable to govern the country. I have voted GOP all my life, but I am about to give up on them. The current GOP policies on trade, jobs, immigration, and the role of the Federal government are insane.

I think the Clintons are calculating that they are so beloved by the libs that they'll vote for Hillary no matter how much she beats up on Moore.

The GOP and the Dems need to learn that most Hispanics want the border controlled. The first one that does that will be in a strong position politically.

"I think it is too late"

It's not too late. The 2008 primary will be crowded with RINOs (McCain, Romney, Giuliani, Hagel). If the social conservatives and law-and-order conservatives (anti-amnesty) can unite, they will win.

The key is to find a candidate with broad appeal, a strong resume, strong personal morals, and a commitment to border security and preservation of human life.

I don't think the public believes that liberal Dems will throw illegal immigrants out of the country.

I have a feeling the GOP nominee in 2008 is going to be someone who is not being talked about today.

The solution to the problem is to punish employers that hire illegals, but you can not punish them if you do not give them the means to determine who is legal and who is not. Slove that problem and enforce the law and you have solved the illegal immigration problem. No need to have troops on the border, leave it mostly open.

I can't agree with either of those propositions. Even if we have a liberal immigration policy, there are still certain people we can't be letting in under any circumstances. And attempting to enforce immigration law in the interior of the country, rather than at the border, will create headaches for citizens as well, and could accelerate the drive for a national ID.

"It's not too late"

Well at the very least it will be a hard sell to convince the country that the party that pushed open borders for 8 years has 'seen the light' and can be trusted to now enforce the law. You can expect the "ome time" only 86 amnety and Bush's 2005 amnesty to be cited as reasons to not believe any GOP candidate that claims to be for immigration enforcement.

By the way, I looked over the post you were responding to, and I agree with the poster - it's not too late. We can start pushing now for someone like Tancredo. It'll be too late in 2007.

It is too late for the GOP. The GOP has bought into open borders, cheap labor and free trade. The GOP candidate will be an open borders, cheap labor, free trade candidate, someone like Tancredo can forget it, ain't gonna happen.

The GOP is retuning to it 1950's elitest country club roots, free nannies for the upper class, mean while the Democrats are returning to their labor roots. Who wins is a no brainer.

I wouldn't put it past her! It's all just so obvious. Does she expect that her attempts to appear conservative will actually sway enough fence sitters to matter? Hopefully it will do the opposite and disenfranchise those libs who are closer to center. We'll be fine as long as the conservative voice in this country makes sure to expose her one-eyed jack routine at every turn over the next four years.

what questions should a person in Tancredo's situation ask or what paperwork should be requested without taking the risk of violating somebody's rights?

So Tancredo has half a dozen illegal aliens inside his house for two months, constantly speaking in a foreign language, but Tancredo did not bother to check their immigration status.

Did it bother him he could be allowing "criminals" inside his home?

According to the Denver Post, Tancredo's excuse does not hold any water. Tancredo said that he couldn't ask the immigration status of people working in his home.

But a Justice Department lawyer disagreed. "If a person wants to feel more comfortable by asking a contractor to sign something assuring them that everyone who works for them is legal, they can do that because (the contractor) has that obligation in the first place," said the lawyer, who declined to be identified.
Tancredo is full of excuses but he's not a man of his word.

Trancredo signed a pledge to follow term limits, and then he reneged on his written word.

Tancredo help raise money for an illegal alien who needed medical care to appease the local press, after being castigated for his public request to deport an honor student.

Tancredo hired a contractor full of illegal aliens, but he claimed that he did not realize the people yakking constantly in Spanish inside his home were not illegal aliens. His excuse that it is not legal to ask for immigration status of the workers was debunked by the Justice Department.

Tancredo lacks integrity. Tancredo lacks credibility. Tancredo lacks good judgment.
