Hollings gets a pass because he is a senile old fogy about to retire. While his Foghorn LegHorn delivery was occasionally
amusing, I still would like to let fly on his grits.
To: Anti-Bubba182
C'mon now, don't mess with the grits. Yams or okra maybe. Some things are still sacred here. Some day the libs will find a way to equate grits with the Bible Belt and we won't be able to have them in public.

Hollings is just another self important bag of wind that stayed too long and should be a poster boy for term limits.

Pardon my french, but this is what makes him known as "Chickens*tz Fritz"---
re: "Communications, defense, you got them all farms, agriculture people and everything else like that
They get their piece of the pie. That's our problem. Today, you can't find the real interests of the country." Puh-leeze. Hollings gets huge bucks from the trial lawyers' lobby...

Sen. Ernest "Fritz" Hollings ought to go back to heading the South Carolina regional chapter of the Ku Klux Klan or whatever it was he did before being elected Senator.

I always thought of Robert Byrd as Foghorn Leghorn.

Make a note - left-wang Big Media gives the racist Hollings a major pass... I don't know that Hollings is a racist, but Mike Wallace sure went out of his way to avoid the fact that it was Hollings as the Democratic governor of South Carolina who put the Confederate battle flag atop the Capitol building. That is not necessarily in itself a racist act, but in the late nineties, the MSM joined the Democrats in blaming the GOP for its continued existence there and the silly boycotts of the Palmetto State that liberal black groups began.
And who would have noticed that Hollings was going if 60 Minutes hadn't decided to pick what's left of his brain? If they wanted to interview a retiring Southern Democrat who had something to say, they could have asked Zell Miller. And Zell Miller had a book out, too! Haven't the 60 Minutes guys been scarfing up and puking out the authors of every other political book?
Oh, yeah, I almost forgot...at Viacom/CBS News, they only highlight anti-Bush books...and they especially plug away at the Viacom/Simon & Shuster ones.

"Papa Bush said, 'Never lead American troops into an urban guerrilla warfare and bog down in a quagmire and turn the Arab world against us,'" says Hollings.I don't remember GHW Bush saying anything of the sort. We didn't go into Baghdad because that was not the UN decision. The decision was to kick Sadaam out of Kuwait, and keep him from coming back.
Hollings is a cantakerous old coot!

A "flannel mouthed" cantankerous old coot if there ever was one.Did this soliloquy mention the episode of him taking the furnishings from the Governors' Mansion when he left office and having to return the furnishings when he was found out? Also, did they report his arrogant disposition when he commandeered a Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter to rescue shrimp from his freezer in his house on the Isle of Palms after Hurricane "Hugo"? Did he describe how he discovered that "Poverty" existed in SC after he got elected to the Senate and got to sit right next to his butt buddy "Teddy the Swimmer"? Good riddance and begone!

Hollings won his first campaign at 26 for a seat in the South Carolina House of Representatives. And there, surprisingly, he helped pass an anti-lynching law and became the state's youngest governor at 36. He managed the peaceful integration of Clemson University back when other Southern governors were fighting to keep their universities all-white. And signed the bill that put the Confederate Battle Flag on top of the State House for thirty-eight years. The anti-Southern forces like the NAACP never bothered to mention THAT little detail when trying to pin racism on the Republicans.
Oh yeah...and considering that Senator Leghorn is bought and paid for by the entertainment media cartel (the RIAA, MPAA, Disney, etc.) and was one of the worst in the Senate about depriving people of their right to use media that they bought and paid for, for him to rail about special interests is especially rich.

I watched this last night and Wallace gava Hollings a 100% pass and puff ball piece. You think for one moment that Senator Lott would get away with anything like that interview last night? Sheesh. They did not ask one tough question.
To: DoctorMichael
I watched this with my jaw halfway to the floor. Partially because of the unbridled scorn he heaped on the Legislature, with himself being a well-paid and pampered member, partially because of his spouting the Kennedy/Camelot PR-talking points, partially because of his partisan and bigotted attack on Condi, and partially because Wallace challenged NONE of this. Your reaction was the same as mine. He bagged on Congress, yet he's been a member for years. His remarks about Condi Rice were outrageous and the worst was that Mike Wallace did not challenge a single sentence.

Hollings should have been sent back to his job as a chicken plucker long, long ago.

Not sure they're into the shaggin' thing -- Myrtle Beach shaggin' that is (to differentiate from British shaggin').
My wife and I took shag lessons last year. We arent very good but what a great way to boogie. SC should export shag nationwide so people can get a life.
