LOUISVILLE, Ky., Decmeber 12th, 2004, 5:45 p.m.) -- The search for an 18-month-old girl has ended in tragedy. Police discovered the body of Kaylynn Gaddie early Sunday morning four days after she went missing. Now, the boyfriend of the baby's mother is charged with killing her. WAVE 3's Frances Kuo has the story.
Kaylynn Gaddie only lived for a year and a half. Her young life ended with what the coroner says was a blunt force trauma to the head.
"I never in my wildest dreams thought that Shawn would hurt that baby like that ... never," said James Barr, Kaylynn's great uncle.
Police had suspected 29-year-old Shawn Michael Shaw was responsible for Kaylynn's disappearance. Shaw was the boyfriend of Kaylynn's mother, Amanda.
He was last seen with the baby when he picked her up from a babysitter Wednesday night. Amanda Gaddie reported the child missing Friday night.
Saturday, there was a break in the case. Following a tip, police arrested Shaw at a motel in Shelbyville. During questioning, Shaw told police he put Kaylynn's body inside a plastic garbage bag, then threw her over a guardrail and into the ravine at the Jefferson Memorial Forest in southwestern Jefferson County.
"I don't see why anybody would want to hurt that baby. I mean no reason at all. She was always happy, fun-loving, she wasn't a bad child," said Barr.
Shawn Michael Shaw is facing charges of Murder and Tampering with Physical Evidence. The charges add to a long list of previous drug and assault charges.
Kaylynn's mother, 23-year-old Amanda Gaddie, is currently waiting to be extradited to the Hardin County jail on charges unrelated to Kaylynn's disappearance and death.
Now family members who helped raise the little girl are demanding Shaw pay with his life for taking Kaylynn's.
"Anybody out there that's got a kid, close your eyes for two seconds and consider them being thrown over a ravine, in a black garbage bag and tell me if Shawn Shaw should get any type of plea bargain," said Barr.
Shawn Michael Shaw is now in the Jefferson County jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned before a judge Monday morning.
"Now, the boyfriend of the baby's mother is charged with killing her."
As is the case all too often.

(I'm not saying that she shouldn't have been born.)
Killing a child should bring an automatic sentence of death.

Nothing is more dangerous than a man who is jealous of a woman's love for her own children.
The heart of man is desparately wicked....who can know it....
I agree. Apparently, the mother should have never had custody of the baby.
Mom has legal issues of her own, unrelated to the baby's death.

When will single women with children learn that nothing is more important than protecting and nurturing the life of their child? Nothing. And certainly not some man who is not her husband.
What a sweet little infant...
She's going to jail herself and she didn't report the poor baby missing for two days, so chances are there wasn't any love for him to be jealous of.
