Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:
1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.
2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.
3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.
If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!
Wow! Every time I reinstall, or use a different machine, I forget to do this with Firefox until someone else bumps this thread.
Thanks guys! lol
This time I finally remembered to c/p the instructions to a file in my maintenance folder. Hah!

Thanks for sharing...It’s useful Tips for Increasing the speed of the Firefox...I am using the Firefox Browser ,i am using Firefox Since 2 years...It’s Good and fast to browse the Internet...But i searched for Tips to increase the speed More,I got the Tips in the Forum Post here..It’s useful it helped me to increase the speed..Now my Upload and Download speed is Good,I have checked my speed at here http://www.ip-details.com/internet-speed-test/ it shows Good Uploading and Downloading speed...thanks a lot once again.
Just FYI:
I setup a new machine awhile back, and happened to recall writing this thread back in what seems like a millennium ago. For the heck of it, I went into the FF Config, and applied all of the settings mentioned here, and they still do work quite well. I’m a little surprised Firefox doesn’t include these settings/values by ‘out of the box - by default upon install. It’s my understanding that the only folks this isn’t good for is dial-up users, and by now they have to be a slim minority on the net.
After applying the settings Firefox performs much better on the net. It even makes FR seem to run a little faster. :p
Happy FReeping!
Do you know if this will work for sea monkey?
I like sea monkey because of things I need to do related to my business, printing shipping labels among other things it works best for me. It is slow, I type 75wpm+ and it can’t keep up with me. I am desperate to speed it up. I’m not using any installed themes so that isn’t the issue.

I can’t get this to open. Says it doesn’t exist??
I gave up on Firefox a couple of months ago. The constant releases, breaking plug-ins (the best reason to use Firefox) and slower and slower response times, bloat, etc.
I only use it still on my Linux box, as it performs well there, but my Mac and PCs have gone Safari.
wow.. I just realized how old that post was. never mind. :)
Worked for me, thanks!
for reference
My warranty will be voided if I follow your instructions.
Made the changes. Pages now load significantly faster in Firefox.
Thanks. I just made a contribution in your name to “The Human Fund”. :-)
LOL Warranties were meant to be voided!
Tip of the cap. Works like a charm. Thanks!
I got a “this might void your warranty” warning. Now I’m afraid to try it! :(
