White House Puts Blame on Kerik (Lost Lunch Alert)
Washington Compost via Yahoo!News ^ | Decemer 12, 2004 | Jim VandeHei and Mike Allen

Posted on 12/12/2004 10:48:04 AM PST by Kaslin

White House officials yesterday blamed Bernard B. Kerik for repeatedly failing to disclose potential legal problems to administration lawyers vetting his nomination to be homeland security secretary, as President Bush (news - web sites) prepared to quickly name a replacement and try to put the controversy over the former New York police commissioner's background behind him.

Kerik, who withdrew his own nomination Friday and apologized yesterday for embarrassing Bush, was asked numerous times by White House lawyers if he had employed an illegal immigrant or failed to pay taxes on domestic help, the sources said.

Kerik was told he would humiliate his family, himself and the president if he lied on either account, the officials said. He responded with firm denials. After digging deeper, however, Kerik said he discovered last week that he might have a problem on both accounts and withdrew his name.

Yes, it needs a barf alert.

Kerik himself took the blame. The White House didn't put it there.

I was curious how a police chief had a nanny to begin with. I am sure the NYC does well, but he seemd to be doing reall well.

I'm just curious how the nanny, being an illegal immigrant, become an oversight until last week.

"White house officials" What a bunch of BS. The MSM rooted him out because terrorist attacks make good news stories.

Ok so we should let the guy who hires illegals and/or fails to pay taxes on domestic help run the INS. I have heard of Bushbots but jeeze. Not to mention, the Daily News reports today that he took many cash gifts that he failed to disclose.

I was and am an ardent supporter of President Bush. However, I have from day one thought Kerik was an extremely poor choice. I don't want a "Cop" as the security head...cops, and I apologize to those here, just don't think. I don't want a person with a Police Mentality running the show.

So, I was extremely happy when this guy withdrew himself from consideration.

I think President Bush should ask Tommy Franks to take the job. Even though I don't trust a Police Mentality, I do (for the most part) trust a military one. We need a general to run this mess.

In the meantime the media ignores the real story.

ONLY some right wing media carry this.

BUT no main stream right wing media.

I guess they are busy selling merchandise and subcriptions.

"Ok so we should let the guy who hires illegals and/or fails to pay taxes on domestic help run the INS."

According to some here, that is no problem at all, in fact it might be an extra qualification for them.

I'm happy to see you keep on Kerry. Did you notice that during the tiny debate in the Senate on intelligence reform, Mr. Kerry was in New Hampshire, campaigning. He did manage to cast a vote...Surprise!

Speaking of Kerry. Did you hear he has finally decided to go to Iraq and visit with the troops. He didn't find it necessary while he was campaigning

I second Gen. Tommy Franks U.S. Army (Ret)

Gen Franks said that he felt the USA was one terror event away from suspending the Constitution.... and he seemed bothered by this possiblity...

Sounds like a good man for the job...now if he would only take it...

"Bozo. Did I say that? I guess I wasn't thinking. I meant to say a**hole"

You just proved my point. Look, I appreciate those that put it on the line to be in law enforcement. However, I have just seen and known too many police officers...they just don't think...at least like the rest of us.
