The Missing Front Page Story this weekend
Wash. Times/Yahoo News/MSNBC/etc | Dec 11, 2004 | vanity

Posted on 12/11/2004 1:46:10 PM PST by topher

What is missing this weekend is important -- significant attacks in Iraq.

This is MAJOR NEWS when the terrorists/insurgents are unable to sustain attacks in Iraq.

It means our troops are safe [one marine KIA though] and the troops are doing their job.

This should be FRONT PAGE NEWS -- the EFFECTIVE WORK of our troops.

In essence I am reporting the ABSENCE of major events in Iraq.

And I hope this will continue to be a low key weekend.

Once upon a time -- in World War I -- it was big time news. The story was All Quiet on the Western Front. That was back when we could trust the media.

We should not just report the negative things, but we need to report the positive things done in Iraq.

And apparently this weekend the troops are on the ball, along with the Iraqi government, keeping the peace.

Let us pray for them, and let us hope that this peaceful lull continues.

Do a better job of impeding them at the borders and kill them on arrival, mostly the latter.

Unfortunately, as one must expect, the enemy is reported to be planning a major wave of bombings, assassinations, and other attacks for the holidays so as to undermine the January 30 elections.

NOBODY PROMISED YOU A ROSE GARDEN!

Ooops, sorry.

The neocons did.

"Islamists and hired killers continue to flood into the country,"

Any solutions for this?

Yeah, we're killing them.

Just thought if the borders could be more secure, the country would stabilize. Was just wondering what ways the military had to do this.

Hard task, no doubt.

(I'd like for our own borders to be secure too. Still waiting for that.)

All true. We are still in the early phases of the Terror War, with important and hard won advantages evident but not yet matured into strategic gains.

Well heck! Everybody should know by now that "NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS!" Good news hasn't qualified as "news" since the Vietnam War!!!

The MSM is desperate to "Veitnamize" this conflict so they can use it to drive a second Texan from the White House!!! That's all there is to it!!!

They wish with aching hearts they had another "Most Trusted Man In America," Walter Chronkite, to dishearten the American public even though our military was actually winning the Tet Offensive!!! They're just sick they can't seem to pull it off!!! Sick, I tell ya... SICK!!!

I think the failures were less a matter of decisions and choices than of the explanations made and of the tone before the public. I suspect that the effort to plead a case before the UN misdirected the Bush administration. In retrospect, Churchillian warnings for the public of sacrifices, risks, and uncertainties would have been better for the long run.

Freepers may not doubt it, but I want to give them credit, and point it other to the ones that do...

It makes my weekend that Iraq is a non-event to the MSM, but that will not stop my prayers for those in harm's way.

Well, my darling Baby Boy cousin just returned to Kuwait for another three-month stint. He's in the Air Force and is a LoadMaster on his C-130. He flies from Kuwait into Baghdad (International) Airport at least 3x a week bringing troops and supplies and equipment.

I know Rob is doing his job, so I know others are as well. I take comfort in that. I know "Chit Happens" but I keep the Faith! :)

Sometimes the absence of something needs to be reported.

This is a good lesson in any situation. Read the news critically and look for what they are not saying. During the last campaign the media was not talking about the gender gap. That is because Kerry was the one with a gender gap, but it was with men.

If the MSM is not saying something bad about the Republicans it is because they can't

Yes, it's disturbing how very little of the positive news makes it into the media. It's a source of frustration to those of us here who witness the progress being made. There is so much good here and it deserves to be reported.

The media and the liberals hate the U.S. They appear to be on the side of the terrorists.

"It also made me think about the serious lack of liberals in our all volunteer fighting force. I think its no coincidence that our fighting forces are the best in the World. Best in the World, and no liberals...hmmmmmmm"

Just look at the problems and publicity that the few left wing lunatics in our military cause with their desertions and the staged ambush of Rummey.

If the lunatic lefties were not allowed in our military, our military would be even more awesome.

The media and the liberals hate the U.S. They appear to be on the side of the terrorists.

They are definitely on the side of the terrorists.

This morning a story that appears to be a top story by the AP is U.S. Soldier Killed by Iraq Roadside Bomb.

But that title is false. The US soldier was not outright killed by the bomb. He/she was airlifted from the scene. Later the person died of wounds sustained.

And was it Dan Rather who wrote this story -- sarcasm intened. No, it is someone known as SAMEER N. YACOUB -- and one will note that SAMEER is very close to the word SMEAR.

Which shows that God wants us to know that this is a SMEAR campaign by the MSM.

It is tragic to have Americans die. But if in World War II the reporting was at it was here, we would have lost the war.

There are instances of bungling that cost many, many lives in World War II. The movie JAWS relates the story of the sinking of the USS INDIANAPOLIS.

It had been on a top secret mission to deliver parts of nuclear weapons [the first atomic bombs] to Guam.

It was sunk on its way to its next assignment, but was not reported as overdue because of bungling in the tracking of US Warships.

A similar thing happened prior to D-Day with a practice mission to land troops that German E-Boats ran into the transports, and killed quite a few GI's.

Today, the death of a single soldier is making headlines.

60 years ago, losses in some distant places were not reported just because of the logistics.

And the most inflammatory part of the AP article is though the terrorists seem to be heroic in some sense killing this person or that person.

Maybe if Sameer the SMEARER starts appearing in places, these reporters might get the picture that they stop the nonsense they are engaged in.

This would be a modern Kilroy was her only with a sarcastic intent.

That sounds like a pretty contorted way of saying either:
1) Gee, I wish the administration would have known their a$$ from 3rd base about the ME, or
2) Golly, I guess honesty might be the best policy, after all.
