"Freeper Jeff Head's "Dragon's Fury" now a Collector's Edition!"
www.DragonsFurySeries.com ^ | December 11, 2004 | Jeff Head

Hi Fellow FReepers,

I am privileged to announce that Jeff Head, the 2001 Free Republic Person of the Year, has just created a single hardback volume of all five of the Dragon's Fury series books! Now, instead of getting one softback volume at a time, you can read the entire epic between two hard covers.

This is a serious undertaking, to say the least! The collector's edition comes in at over 800 pages, by using a smaller than typical font, and putting many more lines on a page than you normally see. For those of us over 40, it will mean pulling out the reading glasses, but the text is none the less very sharp, crisp and readable.

For those FReepers who are not familiar with Jeff's series, it's a stark look ahead at an all-too-possible "nightmare scenario" of our enemies uniting to destroy the United States. Imagine China uniting Asia and the Islamic world in a mega axis of evil. Imagine them attacking without warning, using a long list of breakthrough weapons which we are unprepared to stop. Imagine them activating terror cells right across America. Imagine the free world driven to the brink of utter destruction. That is the Dragon's Fury!

Some of the weapons and tactics used, and the enemy alliances forged, might seem outlandish or beyond the realm of possibility, but everything Jeff Head describes could actually happen. Certainly, America has been the victim of outlandish and unseen attacks before, both at Pearl Harbor and on 9-11. Jeff simply draws together a worst case "what if" scenario. Given the incredible twists and turns of actual history, it's hard dismiss the possibility of the Dragon's Fury events, or other events just as calamitous, actually coming to pass.

I can't commend Jeff enough for his hard work over the past years in creating this series. If anything like the events in Dragon's Fury come to pass, it will not be for lack of Jeff trying to warn America.

An added bonus to buying the new collector's edition is that the text of the five volumes has been finely edited and "smoothed," so the new hardback is actually a better product than the editions which preceded it.

I just visited the link to Jeff Head's web site above, and I must say that I now, as Shakespeare would say, "hold my manhood cheap."

I'll certainly put this book on my Christmas list!

Thanks for the ping, Travis.

Jeff sent me an advance copy of this hardcover edition and I can't tell you how thrilled I was to see how beautifully it turned out. (Jeff, being the perfectionist that he is, had voiced some concerns to me about some aspects of the printing. But, as usual, Jeff's concerns simply represented a combination of his usual perfectionism, and his desire that those who purchase the book receive ultimate quality and readability.) The book is beautiful.

Having been intimately involved with this project from its inception several years ago, I have experienced something akin to birthing pains with the publication of each of the five volumes, and this collector's edition represents the end of a labor of love. :)

In all five volumes, Jeff exhibits a Clancy-like gift (actually in many aspects superior to Clancy, to my mind) that allows him to maintain as many as a dozen or more simultaneous story-lines, intricately knitting each separate piece of the larger puzzle together just often enough that the reader 'remembers' the common thread that runs through them all.

He also exhibits a masterful understanding of world history, current events, and military strategy, and a detailed knowledge of missile/ship/satellite/weapons functions, origins, capabilities and terminology.

The human element is also extraordinarily well portrayed. This isn't simply a cold, facts-and-figures account of World War III. During my attempts at editing, I came across many deeply touching, or deeply tragic, or deeply uplifting parts of the story that either brought me to the verge of tears, or left me with a major lump in my throat.

Yet, to my mind, the most appealing aspect of this series is its believability. Anyone with even a rudimentary knowledge of the state of the world – especially the obsessive and violent nature of Muslim fanaticism – will be justifiably chilled by the realization that all of the horrors contained within the covers of these volumes are not out of the realm of possibility.

Yet (even more importantly), anyone with a belief in God, and the understanding that, no matter man's arrogant undertakings, He is always in control, will close the books, after reading the final chapter, reassured that, so long as we as a nation look to Him for the strength, wisdom and guidance to face any foe, He will provide us the necessary tool with which to prevail.

Thank you, Jeff. You have produced a literary masterpiece, and I consider it an honor to have been a small part of the mission.

If he used standard fonts and lines per page, it would be over 1200 pages, easily!

Yep, it's amazing to hold them all, or to hold the collector's edition! The intricacy and detail level are simply stunning.

Congratulations, Jeff, on your new big bang book!

It must have been exhausting to put all this together into one nice package. I hope you outsell every book on the shelves.

Have a beer and pat yourself on the back.

#13;...(your post)
High praise indeed...
Even your praise echos "Dragon Fury" across the formiding valley that western civilization lays in.. Cause there be "Dragons" in that there valley.. Even if you don't see them, you know they are there.. And shiver at the prospect of facing them.. Having the balls to do so anyway, is the stuff legend and good stories are made of..

Jeff may have tapped into that stuff... No!.. he has tapped into that stuff.. Good stuff; courage in the face of adversity.. and cowardice in the face of evil..
