"Heart of Dixie" disputed on Alabama license plates (More Liberal Intolerance)

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — The state slogan "Heart of Dixie," a source of pride to some and embarrassment to others, is disappearing from more Alabama license plates every year.

One-third of the groups that promote distinctive and collegiate license plates now choose to leave the slogan off their tags.

The standard state license plate still has "Heart of Dixie," but it's reduced to letters one-sixteenth of an inch high and it's placed in the bottom corner of the tag where it's barely visible to passing motorists.

But THEY are the ones who keep fighting!

That same old song and dance is getting old. They know the squeaky wheel gets oil - the attacks will continue until their behavior is not rewarded.

The history (and future) of our Republic is at stake here.

So, the "intolerance" is everywhere (whatever that is to you) .... yet it is the South that is the target of your indictments?

Huh? What are you talking about? I was referring to one "Southerner-in-name-only" in particular. I have an unblemished record of defending my native Dixie.

being northernBORN no more makes you a damnyankee than it makes you a plumber.

DAMNyankee is a LEARNED prejudice & hatefulness toward dixie, her people, her bloodstained battleflags, her sacred war memorials, etc. (if you want to know what a damnyankee is like, visit the "civil war" threads on FR. we have LOTS of south-HATERS, who show up there to make "cute" ANTI-dixie comments.

WELCOME to the southland.

LOL! Louisanna is a bit "different" even for Dixie.
I'll admit that I did have to re-read your post before I understood that you were defending the Southland.

It is quite interesting that "they lost the war - get over it" keep reappearing. From the results of their "leadership" over the last 140 years, I'd say that we all lost (with the obvious exception of the former slaves). Constitutional rule of law ended with the termination of hostilities in 1865.

So why doesn't anyone point out the name "Dixie Chicks" for being offensive?

Not until the Confederates, and the sons of the Confederates, and their sons were dead could the damn yankee carpetbaggers come out to pick the bones of the carcass of the once proud south. You ought to be ashamed to post that garbage over the screen name of Texas Aggie. I don't believe you are a Texas Aggie. A Texas Aggie would kick your ass for running down the South.

I have never understood the hatred by some of all things southern.

When I would go back to visit in NYC after I moved to Delaware (which is actually east of the M/D line)I was shocked by the attitudes of people I had known most of my life. I can only imagine what some of them would say if they knew I lived in Virginia now.

We are here by choice, the last thing on earth I'm going to do is start badmouthing a place I chose to move. Being a Yankee by birth, I much prefer the idea of raising my daughter a southerner.

Sorry, I mis-read the thread... I didn't realize you were referring to TexasAggie moving into your "neighborhood"... I need to slow down sometimes, but these attacks on Southerners borders on the ridiculous around here. My apologies... I have now been set straight!

There is nothing wrong with having "Heart of Dixie" on a license plate. This merely denotes a geographic region of the US. Many still refer to the South as Dixie (which comes from the French word "DIX"-pronounced deec- which means ten. I can't exactly quote how we got Dixie out of Dix, but I know this is were it originated.) Anyway, if this offends you, you should be more concerned about more local issues, like what was wrong with your daddy's sperm.
