"Heart of Dixie" disputed on Alabama license plates (More Liberal Intolerance)

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — The state slogan "Heart of Dixie," a source of pride to some and embarrassment to others, is disappearing from more Alabama license plates every year.

One-third of the groups that promote distinctive and collegiate license plates now choose to leave the slogan off their tags.

The standard state license plate still has "Heart of Dixie," but it's reduced to letters one-sixteenth of an inch high and it's placed in the bottom corner of the tag where it's barely visible to passing motorists.

Oh well if it comes from the French, then that is offensive. ;)

I understand what you mean about the hatred.....I'm reading on the thread you pinged me to, I feel like I need a shower.

While I understand your point, it is going to be pretty difficult for any future generations to deny their Yankee heritage, since my husband's family cemetary in New Hampshire is also the family cemetary of the family of Nathan Hale.

Well, most of Louisiana has a heavy French background. However, these Cajuns are the type of Frenchies you don't want to mess with. I think all the good fighting French moved to Louisiana hundreds of years ago.

Thank you.

I have been very fotunate in that I have not encountered anything but welcome from the locals, who I was warned have a tendency to not welcome "come here's."

My husband jokes we came here seeking political asylum from the socialist cesspool that Delaware has become, and that is why we have been welcomed.

LOL!
Nor should you! I am very proud of my Southern Heritage as you should be your Northern!
I fear that the thread has taken a bit of a us against them tone. We are one nation. As I stated in a previous post, we generally migrate to a state that reflects what we hold to be important for our family.
I have found that in the South one is free to believe and practice most anything, we only get upset when someone tries to force us to believe and teach our children in opposition to our belief.

i had ONE ancestor who (GASP!) rode/fought with a yankee/KS-jayhawker unit during the war.

a LOT of my family not only won't talk about him BUT also some of the family deny he was ever ALIVE.

the same will VERY likely be true of your descendants, come dixie LIBERTY.

btw, Harvey W. was the ONLY one who was a turncoat; the other 13 lads were PURE REBEL.

btw, the HATRED exposed on the other thread is the REAL REASON that the war will never end until dixie is FREE.

I had heard of segregation but it wasn't until I came to Alabama that I saw it first hand. The cafeteria had ALL whites on one side and ALL blacks on the other, and this was in North Alabama (The progressive part of Alabama). I didn't know what to make of it, I thought it just might be coincidence.

That's just a lie. The African-Americans would never put up with it.

Don't some of the newer Bama plates have "The stars rained down on Alabama" or something weird like that?

The heritage is actually my husband's and my daughter's. My family did not show up on American soil until the 20th century.

You are right, we are one nation and we should all remember that.

I admit that we did choose to move to this part of Virginia primarily because Delaware no longer reflected what is important to our family. Working in politics as long as I did, I should have seen it coming, but it wasn't until we became parents that it literally slapped us upside the head. I tried hard to be part of the solution, but it exploded so fast, that I became considered part of the problem.

Sure, that's why NASA has an installation in Huntsville, AL.

I don't think there should be a law against it or anything, I just think this state [Texas A&M University] has a LOOOOOONG way to go to catch up to the rest of the world.

As a Texas resident and naturalized Texan who knows better, I sure look forward to the day that that ignorant "university" up the road gets shut down so that the funds it sucks down can be better applied to more pressing state needs, and those stammering stumblebums who used to attend it can melt back into the woods where they belong.

I just so cannot stand ignorance and lack of native intelligence being so put on display.
