I think that the Deputy US Marshal standing next to her desk might have persuaded her it was the best course of action.

Ding, dong, the witch is dead. Or at least her chairmanship is. Let sanity return ... which unfortuanately will have to await the hiring of an apolitical, professional staff to replace the leftist hanger-ons now working for the Commission.

A Mona Charen PING...forgive me if you've already seen this. I like Ms Charen. She is a voice of reason on Capital Gang.
Before we had FoxNews, I had to watch cnn for news. Ms.Charen was always well-spoken, and intelligent

Berry departs with allegations of mismanagement swirling about her head. The commission is small potatoes, Washington-wise, with a budget of only $9 million and a staff of only 70. But no one knows how that money has been spent over the past 12 years, while Berry has presided with an iron hand. Peter Kirsanow, a black conservative member of the commission, writes that the management of the agency is "completely dysfunctional." Record-keeping is said to be "indecipherable," and there hasn't been an independent audit (required by law) for 12 years. Disgusting! I paid this b****'s salary! Ugh!

This is no surprise to those who've been following the commission's work. Under Berry's direction, the Civil Rights Commission published an utterly fallacious finding about the 2000 election in Florida, concluding that "countless Floridians ... were denied their right to vote." When Commissioners Russell Redenbaugh and Abigail Thernstrom issued a minority report showing, among other things, that the commission had not interviewed a single Floridian who was denied the opportunity to vote, Berry ruled that the minority report could not be considered an official commission document because they had used the services (free) of a scholar named John Lott. It was not permitted, Berry asserted, to use the services of outside analysts -- even for free.
And this commission did not change a bit under Bush's first term...

Mary Frances Berry, chairman of the U.S. Civil Rights Commission, is resigning.
Yeah, right. She resigned the same way the contestants on "The Apprentice" resign at the end of the show. Oh... That's rigth, they're actually FIRED. And so was Berry!

Never thought I'd see the day. Remembering as I do the way MFB pretzel-twisted the rules in the Kirsanow affair, along with all the junketing and the byzantine, diabolical machinations by which she ruled her little personal empire, makes this like an extra Christmas gift.
Ding, dong, the witch is DEAD!

I know the Pubbies in Congress and the White House don't even want to imagine this, but:
How about Abolishing It?
My second choice--how about abolishing any federal commission?
Is it too much for a taxpayer to ask?
