Pro-family organizaton responds to California Attorney General on “freedom of conscience attack”

SACRAMENTO, USA, Dec. 09, 2004 (CNA) - A leading pro-family organization, Campaign for Children and Families, issued a response to California Attorney General Bill Lockyer’s announcement yesterday that he will sue to block the Hyde-Weldon conscience amendment in the recently-passed federal spending bill which prohibits government entities from punishing doctors who won't do abortions, saying that Lockyer is ignoring the right to “freedom of conscience.”

Randy Thomasson, president of CCF stated: "Imagine you're a baby doctor. You've said the Hippocratic Oath to do no harm, and now Bill Lockyer is forcing you to participate in killing an unborn child in a bloody abortion procedure. What ever happened to a person's 'right to choose' to have a conscience?

"Instead of behaving like a lawyer for the wealthy abortion groups, Lockyer should immediately draft legislation to conform California to the new federal law,” said Thomasson.

“California doesn't have to lose any federal funds,” he explained. “Abortions would still occur in California, but the state would cease and desist from forcing doctors and nurses to horribly kill unborn children against their own conscience."

The days when the Democrats here used to be pro-life are long gone.

And I think I've heard that Lockyer calls himself a "Catholic". I know there are many out there who will have the facts.

Financially punishing a doc who refuses to perform abortions against his conscience is against my conscience. Ludicrous. Something must be missing from this. Even Lockyer can't be quite this morally bankrupt and crazed.

Do tell. In the old days, they used to attach a do not spend public funds for abortion in Cal-Med clause. The funny thing was the courts were more liberal than the State Legislature. Finally the party drifted left and today its impossible to find a Democrat who thinks limiting abortion was ever a good idea.

I thought pro-choice meant allowing doctors the choice not to perform abortions.

He's asking the impossible of Lockyer. Lockyer is nothing but a filthy Leftist who loves breaking the law, provided it harms everyone who stands up for what's right.

In January, the CA General Assembly passed a resolution celebrating abortion on demand. CA RATS are raving lunatics. Michael Moore has taught them well.

So Lockyer believes in women's right to choose, but he won't give that same option to doctors. Talk about total hypocricy!!! But then, what do you expect from demonicrats.

Forcing doctors to perform abortions is the perfect was to force anyone with a conscience out of medicine.

Then, after the government takes over the health care system, it will be much easier to define belief in God as a form of mental illness.

Lockyear is campaigning for Governor. That's why he's huffing and puffing.

It's a well known issue in that the numbers of ob-gyns willing to do abortions are way way down and newer doctors and med students are refusing to take the elective courses that teach abortions in school. This is a way to strong arm the good ethical doctors into doing the morally unconscienable! Doctors will have to choose between their careers and their consciences.
