Too bad it won't happen.

In case you haven't noticed, that's exactly what the "strident" part of the conservative movement wants. They know best; it's NOT up for discussion.

OMG, mass hysteria; these people never supported Bush in EITHER election, but now are demanding that he submit to their every belief.

I was thinking the same thing.

>> W2 isn't getting off to a very good start. He's keeping a bunch of losers, Mineta, Snow, Chao. The latter two probably have the worst political skills among all of them. <<

Agree with that. As I noted on another thread, I'd much rather see Gale "Emily's List" Norton, Norm "Clinton holdover" Mineta, and John Snow get their pink slips than Tommy Thompson, Rod Paige, and John Ashcroft.

So far, the ONLY improvement has been dumping Powell and replacing him with Rice. And what was G.W. thinking by naming Mike Joannes as Argiculture Sec?

"but now are demanding that he submit to their every belief."

This is indeed even scarier than the dreaded Norm Mineta...

It's always the same ones, with some of them "leaders" leading the others on.

You have to wonder why; could these be the same people who really want the GOP to win to "teach us a lesson" so we'll run -- they think -- back to the extreme right wing of the party? You know, they are always telling us that if a "real" conservative candidate runs, they'd win every single time. (Just ignore Alan Keyes, as everybody else did.)

Oh, yes. I've noticed.

There are some areas where I don't agree with President Bush, and like to read both sides of the issue to get all the info I can, and make a well-informed, rational decision about it.

But when I get on threads with the unappeaseables, I find myself reacting to their hysteria, making a comment or two in response, and learning absolutely nothing......because they say nothing of substance......and I usually leave the thread.

Thus far on this thread, I've seen no actual information to back up the "this guy's a disaster," other than disagreeing with two of his positions.

That makes the whole thread useless, IMO.......

IN case you weren't paying attention, Tommy Thompson, Rod Paige, and John Ashcroft weren't fired, they all asked to step down for various reasons, mostly personal. Furthermore, Powell wasn't "dumped" either, his resignation was known once he took the job as Secretary of State. He said he would only serve in a Bush first term, and is holding true to that promise. My God, your acting as if all these are firings, when they're not.

They get in the way of the drama.....

Facts are what's sorely lacking in this entire thread. Somebody has to step up to the plate.

Powell out is bad?

I gave Powell his due when it was announced he was leaving. I commended him for his service, nor did I engage in the celebration over his departure.

I did celebrate Condi's nomination in her own separate thread.

I will not bash Powell BUT, imo, Condi is the right choice for SOS. That department needs a cleaning much like what is occuring in the CIA. She is skilled, loyal and given recent foreign policy developments her background is an asset.

I have no opinion either way about Mineta. I realize people on the right latched onto his departure the way people on the Left sought Rumsfeld head, though I'm not impugning the reasons people sought Mineta's resignation. I confess he's never caught my interest, so I have little information to draw a conclusion about his appointment.

The choice I'm actually more in disagreement with the President about is Snow. Perhaps he is needed behind the scenes to implement the President's economic objective, I don't know. On camera I've found him to be a disappointment in personably advancing the objective.

Win some, lose some. On balance I'm more pleased than displeased with his selections in the 2nd term.

No, these people are up early and working hard to try to hijack the party away from the current leaders in 2008.

No matter what they say, they believe Bush and his administration AND the entire Senate and House are too liberal.

They want to drag us back to the '50s.

Howlin, what is with your Alan Keyes obsession? I live in Illinois and that election fiasco cannot be compared to ANY normal election.

For the last time, our INCUMBENT Senator, who WAS proclaimed an "unelectable right-wing extremist" when he ran in the '98 primary, went on to beat RINO Dickerson in the primary and Moseley-Braun in the general. He WAS expected to run again and WIN but some RINOs hounded him until he retired. Then the "right-wing" candidate WE Republican voters picked in Illinois, Jack Ryan (who was the strongset candidate we could have run), got hit with a scandal and was lynched by incompetent party "leaders" who were clueless on who they could replace him with.

Two months, $14 million in fund-raising for Obama, a DNC-convention keynote speech, and virtually EVERY runner-up in the primary refusing to be named as a replacement later, Alan Keyes was picked as our nominee. You know what kind of Republican could beat Obama under THOSE circumstances? None!

Perhaps former Governors Edgar or Thompson had a chance but even THEY would had difficulty against the media's coroneted golden boy. Keyes' idelogy had nothing to do with it. By default, ANYONE with an "R" next to their name STARTED OUT by trailing the "unopposed" Obama by 20 points. The guy had just had 2 monthes of glowing, deity-like free coverage from the media.

Keyes ideology had NOTHING to do with it. For the last time, get it through your head, the IL GOP self-destructed and Obama got a free pass for 70% of the campaign season.

I see you missed my complete point with your knee jerk reaction; I realize the position Illinois was in.

I have no opinion of Mineta either way. Personally, I think Bush has a good reason for leaving him in the administration that every single one of us aren't aware of.
