Brudnoy, in cancer's grip, prepares for end
The Boston Globe ^ | 12/9/2004 | Brian McGrory

David Brudnoy's voice has filled the cars and kitchens of the everyday and the elite for nearly three decades, his thoughts shaping the way tens of thousands of listeners view the world beyond their doors. But yesterday, the radio talk-show host could muster little more than a raspy whisper as he confided that a rare form of untreatable cancer has overwhelmed his body, and he expects to die within days.

'I'm ready," said Brudnoy, 64, in an interview in his room at Massachusetts General Hospital, oxygen tubes in his nostrils and the light from a picture window highlighting deep caverns that have opened on his face.

''I've said innumerable prayers within [the Catholic] tradition and other traditions," he said. ''I think whatever happens I will be able to contend with it."

''I don't believe in pitchforks and harps," added the declared agnostic.

Hours later, his longtime physician, Greg Robbins, confirmed the prognosis in a separate interview, saying, ''He has a terminal condition, and it's a matter of time. How much time is not in our control. It's a matter of hours or days.

Why anyone would reject His free offer is almost incomprehensible.

This is the position that David Brudnoy may find himself. He may find himself before the Throne of God Almighty and see the totality of his life flashed up before him and say to himself, 'Why did I not believe since all of creation shows his handiwork? I knew about Christ, why did I chose to be agnostic? Why did I reject the free offer?'. He may be there absolutely speechless.

Please pray for him, that God may draw him to see the desperate nature of his condition, both physical and spiritual and cry out for forgiveness and salvation from Christ before it is too late.

Why didn't David see? Let me give you an example. For many years I didn't see either. I was probably an atheist/agnostic. I went through some difficult times and decided to change my views. While it didn't solve my difficulty, I still have made the attempt to improve my views and actions toward matters of faith and belief. I still struggle. It's not easy to see. I get discouraged and have to catch myself and remind myself to continue to believe.

I recently heard someone speaking of a heart that has become reprobate. I wonder if my struggle isn't something related to that, even though I don't totally understand the word. (I take it to mean my sin of non belief is so great that erasing it is almost impossible.) If that is the meaning, the Broudnoy may have suffered the same.

Why has any mention of David Brudnoy turned into a religious discussion?

The religious friends in his life including MA Governor Romney, a devout Mormon, have been praying for him, prayers that Brudnoy has been grateful for and fully accepting of.

As he said himself, If there is a heaven I'll knock twice, if there's a hell a knock once, and if there's nothing i'll not knock at all.

Hi Joesbucks,

>I was probably an atheist/agnostic.

Yes, I was one too. I hated the government and hated the church even worse, but God had a different plan. Looking back on it now, I see that he was knocking at the door of my heart long before I knew him; putting certain people in my life, prompting me to ask deep questions, giving me a thirst to understand the Bible. Yet I was arrogant and hateful at the time; with one fist raised up at God and the other at the Government and my parents.

By all rights, God should have chose to have nothing to do with me. The amazing things is that after 32 years, I still say the same thing about myself even now, but God keeps knocking, laying out treasures, now and then using the Shepperd's crook on me; proving again and again that He is there.

I used to think I had to maintain it, or do something to have His presence in my life. but after memorizing Lamentations 3:23/25 "The LORD'S lovingkindnesses indeed never cease,For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness." I have come to see that it is God that drives the Christian life; he lays out new lovingkindnesses every morning for folks like us. And by looking at our Savior, we see his providences.

God is very tender to the believer as a loving Father is tender to His only Son. His discipline, though often not so fun, is good because it bears fruit for eternity.

I heard that David has died and Pray that in the last moments of his life, he turned from his own righteousness and justification to the Savior and made that plea. For an eternity without the Heavenly Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, is not to have love or freindship anymore.

It would be far better, to be able to hear a testimony of God's merciful love toward him from his mouth and for him to have real love and friendship for all eternity than anything else.

David Brudnoy supported having those addicted to Homosexuality hold leadership positions in the Boy Scouts. By that measure he was indeed a spokesman for the cult of homosexuality agenda.

I was asked to be here tonight in part as a signal of the Boston Minuteman Council's cold war with the national Boy Scouts of America headquartered in Irving, Texas. I say cold war because there is no shooting, no shouting, just a tough disagreement separating the national organization, which demands a cruel discrimination doing nothing but enshrining a bigotry, and the Minuteman Council, which last year, in its policy of nondiscrimination, signed by Brock Bigsby, declared as unacceptable "bias, intolerance, and unlawful discrimination" in serving thousands of youths "without regard to color, race, religion, ethnic background, sexual orientation, or economic status." In joining councils in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Minneapolis - my natal city - the Council in Boston, my adopted city for 40 years, said forcefully that it will not judge the worthiness of a boy to share in the remarkable experience of scouting on the basis of what his sexual orientation is or may be, nor the competence of an older boy or man to be a leader, on the same irrelevant criterion.
