At Least 3 Dead, 4 Wounded In Nightclub Shooting Witnesses: Alleged Gunman Went Onto Stage, Fired Shots

POSTED: 10:32 pm EST December 8, 2004 UPDATED: 11:36 pm EST December 8, 2004

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- At least three people died and four others were wounded after a shooting at a Columbus nightclub on Wednesday night, NBC 4 reported.

The shooting took place shortly after 10 p.m. at Alrosa Villa, located at 5055 Sinclair Road.

Two members of the heavy metal band Damageplan were reportedly shot and killed, including Dimebag Darrell, formerly with the band Pantera, NBC 4's David Wayne reported. The alleged gunman also died at the scene, Wayne reported.

Shortly after the band began playing its first song, a man reportedly ran onto the stage and began shooting, according to a witness who identified himself as Sean. Some members of the audience reportedly thought the man running onto the stage with a gun was part of the band's act, NBC 4's Erin Tate reported.

Witnesses said that several shots were fired at the band. Witnesses said that a bouncer at the club tackled the alleged gunman before that person was shot and killed. It was unclear as to whom shot the alleged gunman.

Alrosa Villa is a popular north Columbus nightspot for young adults, featuring rock and heavy metal bands, NBC 4 reported.

According to the band's Web site, Damageplan was touring nationally. It performed in Buffalo, N.Y., on Tuesday night and had a concert scheduled in Flint, Mich., on Thursday.

Damageplan featured former Pantera artists Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul. The pair were joined by vocalist Patrick Lachman and bassist Bobzilla, according to their Web site.

Too bad he didn't take it out on himself. Or helped get Phil into Betty Ford or something. Anything but this...

Holy crap....

Now that is scary. No wonder my parents didn't want me listening to '80's hairbands. ;-)

Yeah man, Scando black metal is cool, I'm not really a metalhead, just an old-school kind of rocker, MC5 (hence the tagline), Hellacopters, Superdrag, Stooges, Ramones, Kyuss / QOTSA... anything that really rocks, I'm into it. Metal is cool when you want to get heavy and technical but most of my stuff is straight-ahead rock and roll.

But BLS is great! BLS-MF! R&R4L-MF!!!

I haven't seen anyone explain what "dimebag" refers to in the guy's nickname. I wouldn't necessarily wish him eternal peace, since, if he came up with that nickname himself, he has a few questions to answer in the afterlife for glorfying the purchase of drugs in $10.00 increments, and influencing the "young adult" fans about drugs in a positive and desireable way. Just my opinion.

Without reading the thread I hope I'm not the first to applaud the policeman who killed the killer.

To kill an armed man with a pistol means getting close enough to put your own life at risk.

Surely a hero.

I was remarking on your comment about gun laws in places that serve alcohol?

These laws are already in place and they did nothing to stop someone intent on breaking them.

Laws do not stop crimes. Punishment and deterrence does.

The scum bag criminal got what he deserved, just a little too late to save the innocent lives he took.

Now I take your "your a friggin genius!" as a personal attack. If something terrible has happened to you with a gun? Get help! If you want to lash out personally to me FRmail me!

comments like that would make a non christian think twice about being a christian if crap like that is what they have to proclaim. eternal peace is not yours to give or to wish on anyone. The eternal state of this man's soul is between him and God. sheesh...you and tallhappy and thomas paine should start a band called The Hateful Christians. This man was murdered while playing his guitar onstage in concert. lighten up.

You forgot about the infamous Pantera concert in Dallas, were the fans tore up the floor board of Reunion Arena(I think) and start throwing the debris around and eventually starting bond fires.

Were Pantera concerts just naturally violent? The only time I went to see them (Cowboys from Hell tour), in the middle of the concert (stadium seating) people started going nuts, throwing chairs, climbing over us, trampling people, shoving security guards to get to the front. It was insane.

I was never much of a Pantera fan (I took my brother), because of the pot references, and they tended to attract the more stupid fans, but Dimebag was an INCREDIBLE guitarist, one of the best.

I was much more restrained in my wording than damning someone to hell. If it was a dime bag of marijuana, that's one thing, but dime bag also refers to cocaine and methamphetamine, and I might consider damning someone to hell for glorifying the illegal use of methamphatamine. Just my pathetic opinion. And nothing personal about the guy, I just said he might have a few questions to answer in the afterlife, and if God says it's OK, then I won't argue. It's not up to me.

Darrel spoke against chemicals in his interviews.
He was a guitar junkie. His famous band Pantera broke up,
because of the singers use of speed and heroine.
His nick was 'Daimond' Darrell in the glam rock era of 80's.
He changed it to 'Dimebag' as a joke about weed.
He was a nice guy. Ask any of the fans, who are selling his
autographs and items on Ebay today.

"I might consider damning someone to hell for glorifying the illegal use of methamphatamine"

So tomorrow, when the government tells you that methamphetamine is no longer illegal, it will be OK and you can hope Darrell goes to Heaven?

You and BOOTLICK, two twisted peas in a pod!

We aren't at war with Muslims, either; we're at war with terrorists. It's an invalid point.

Read the Koran. It's a valid point.

I have that CD. I always enjoyed taking it out and
playing it for kids who jumped on the Pantera wagon after
they went thrash. They just could NOT believe it was the same band.

The nickname refers to marijuana, because he was too broke to afford much more than a dime bag in the early days.

Most nicknames aren't self-created; that's my understanding with this one.

I know it's up to God who goes to hell and who doesn't, but there are people who I would not wish eternal rest for. Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin, Yasser Arafat, Jeffery Dahmer, to name a few. I don't really know how God disposed of them, but I tend to think it was pretty harsh. I'm not saying that naming onesself dimebag and glorifying the illegal use of drugs such as methamphetamine, which can have severe and long lasting repurcussions on people, is tantamount to what anything Saddam Hussein did, that is too tough for me to figure out. I'm sorry to offend anyone by appearing hateful, and I never heard of this guy, I just wanted to comment on his poor choice of nicknames, and mention that sometime we will have to answer for all of our sins, and this guy is no different. If people use crank because they are fans of him and his nickname influenced them, he would have to have some culpability there. And I don't even oppose drugs neceessarily, just the illegal use of dangerous drugs.
