DNR, Hmong debate how to spread respect in wake of shootings
Shawano Leader ^ | 12/8/2004 | AP

MADISON (AP) -- Hmong leaders pleaded for more help from the state to educate Hmong hunters on regulations, as they brainstormed Tuesday on ways to defuse racial tension and help their people earn respect in the aftermath of the North Woods slayings.

The session was held a week after Chai Soua Vang, 36, from St. Paul, Minn., was charged with shooting six white hunters to death and wounding two others Nov. 21 after Vang trespassed on their land in Sawyer County.

Kou Xiong, the state Department of Natural Resources Hmong liaison, told a group appointed by Gov. Jim Doyle to handle Hmong immigration he is the only one in the agency that deals directly with the Hmong and he can't educate the approximately 14,000 Hmong hunters that take to Wisconsin's woods.

"I can't do it alone," he said.

Thai Vue, a task force member and associate executive director of the La Crosse Area Hmong Mutual Assistance Association, shook his head. He said the DNR has to pump more resources -- especially more bilingual staff -- into educating his people on hunting regulations.

"I'm scared," he said. "You can't reach out to people to this degree."

Doyle appointed the Hmong Resettlement Advisory Task Force earlier this year to help the state absorb about 3,000 new Hmong refugees expected to arrive by spring. The task force's meeting Tuesday was its first since the slayings, which came on the second day of the nine-day gun deer season.

Chai Soua Vang allegedly told police the hunters he killed hurled racial slurs at him and fired a shot after they found him in their tree stand and ordered him off their land. All eight hunters who were shot were white.

This has NOTHING to do with culture. Vang owns 40 acres with a hunting camp in his home state and yet went to Wisonsin to kill people. WHY? Because as an American, he knows all about property rights and as a human being he knows he would get into serious trouble for murder, so he went OUT OF HIS STATE and INTO ANOTHER in order to KILL people so he wouldn't get caught.

He's a PSYCHOPATH. This attempt by the Hmong to turn a massacre by a guy who appears to have the symptoms of being a classic SERIEL KILLER is NOT a good idea.

My advice to the Hmong: DO NOTY continue to follow the advice of Vangs lawyers. TO NOT make ALL Hmong out to be trigger happy crazies, ou tto Columbine anyone who looks at them crosseyed. DENOUNCE him and his murders. D-I-S-O-W-N him. Capicce??

Bull dung. If the Hmong don't have an understanding of basic English, it is due to failure in being naturalized -- meaning he should not even be in this country. The DNR doesn't have resources to spare on this political crap. Fact is, he's a murdering animal and his ethnicity has nothing to do with it. There's only way for the Hmong community to gain respect in the aftermath of this incident, and that is to subject their own to the punishment proscribed by law for the crime committed. There's no death penalty in Wisconsin, but this is exactly the type of crime that makes me think we should have one.

To hire more bilingual staff to educate 'Hmong' hunters?

Let me get this straight, if you must pass a hunter safety class before getting a license, how can you not know about tresspassing? Are there now supposed to be hunter safety classes in different languages? Spanish, Hmong, Norweigan, Swedish, Cajun, Mongolian,etc.. I can hear it now, you call the DNR and the recording says "Press 1 for Spanish, Press 2 for Hmong, Press 3 for Norweigan.............. Please give me a break!

I agree. The Hmong's best PR move would be to move as far away from Vang and his crime as possible. To bad WI doesn't have capital punishment.

I was wondering about the "racial tension" also. Not sure about up North, but here in Texas the good ole redneck hunters are not the vengeful type that take revenge on a community for the acts of one idiot.

The Kerry/Edwards sign sure disappeared quickly from his front yard after the picture of his house showed up in the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Maybe he was just another Nutball Lefty suffering from P.E.S.T.>>Post Election Selection Trauma.

If they can't read english they shouldn't get a license. If they can, they can figure out trespass. And trespassing, the only violation here other than murder, is a criminal issue unrelated to the game laws. Call the DNR about a trespasser, they'll tell you to call the sheriff. IMO neither Vang's race nor his knowledge, and he knew them, of the regulations had anything to do with this crime.

You're right on both issues. If the Hmong community is behind this publicity it's a very dumb move. There's no sympathy to be had here.

Yeah, but still, who gets into an argument over whatever (trespassing, private property, parking spaces, WHATEVER) and just hauls off and shoots 8 people, killing 6. I mean who does this? Lunatics do this, it has nothing to do with hunting. I mean, seriously, is the Hmong guy trying to claim that 8 people were going to gun him down for trespassing and so it was self-defense? That's unbelievable too. You don't have a right to kill people merely because they are trespassing, or yelling at you and/or calling you names. Freaking guy is a hunter, presumably he would know enough to shoot someone WITHOUT killing them.

Like I always say on these threads, I grew up in NYC and I know zilch about hunting, the woods, tree stands and guns. But I know bullsh*t when I hear it, and there is some SERIOUS b.s. going on with this case. I thing Mr. Hmong is a psycho-killer and his "community" better just accept that and let him take his lumps. Moveon dot org and definately get as far away from that guy as you can.

And the prosecuting powers that be better bring the hate-crime/race-murder angle up, if only as motive and not as a charge, depending on the laws in that state.

I'm damn tired of colored people killing people with impunity. And then claiming that they and their "community" are the victims. Muslims, Hmongs, I don't care who they are.

Well, this is a no-brainer. Explain to the Hmong our tradition of private property rights. Then also explain to the Hmong the fact that six Americans turned up with only one gun is a statistical outlier.

Had this guy been in the UP, he would have been spared the opportunity to stand trial, because he would have caught a round in his head about two seconds after he took his first shot. Which is as it should be. Same as it ever was.

"the state Department of Natural Resources Hmong liaison"

What do these stupid bastards need, big blinking lights that say "STAY OFF OTHER PEOPLE'S PROPERTY" in Hmong on four sides of each hunting camp?!?! They have a Hmong liason. Does he not speak the language? Does he not know the name of all the Hmong language newspapers and magazines? Does he not know where they gather for worship or family celebration?

If a white person shot a bunch of Asians at a weekend party he'd be dead already. Here the Hmong are going to use this to squeeze money out of the state government to hire more f'in Hmong workers to liase with. What a travesty. What a country we've managed to end up with.

You are very wise grasshopper.

I didn't even see that angle. But you are 100% correct.

Yes, we can blame criminals, the media and taxpayer sucking liberals for fomenting dissent among ethnicities.

News with Views | 8 Dec 2004 | Frosty Wooldridge

President Bush announced last January his amnesty plan for legalizing 15 million illegal aliens in this country as well as his guest worker program for matching willing workers to willing employers. What do you think happened?

Illegal alien entry numbers jumped 20 percent immediately. Over 4,000 desperate Third World people crossed nightly over the 300-mile sector in Arizona alone! According to Time Magazine, September 12, 2004, "The number of illegal aliens flooding into the U.S. this year will total three million—enough to fill 22,000 Boeing 737 airliners, or 60 flights every day of the year."

In the meantime, he gave NO plan of action to stop that number from migrating illegally over our borders. Since 9/11, he has done NOTHING to stop that human invasion. What does he expect will happen once he gives amnesty to the 15 million already here? Despite Bush’s Yale degree, it doesn’t take a fifth grader to figure out that one! Bush will make instant American citizens out of 15 million illegal aliens and encourage millions more to cross our borders.

What does that mean for you and me? For starters, he makes legal citizens of the 600,000 illegal aliens now dwelling in our state and federal prisons at $1.6 billion of our tax dollars annually. What happens when they finish their prison terms? Yea! They become US citizens—making them eligible for unemployment, food stamps, welfare, driver’s licenses, drug rehab—and well, re-entering their gangs.

It means the 20,000 member "18th Street Gang" with over 60 percent illegal aliens will become US citizens. The 8,000 member MS-13 Gang out of Central American and now operating in 28 cities will become legal to move about the country as they spread drugs and child prostitution rings throughout America.

It means 15 million people who broke our laws, who do not speak English, while averaging a fifth grade education in another language in a Third World country-- will be able to access billions in welfare services. No big deal for a nation with a $7.4 trillion national debt!

It means we’ll okay the balkanization of our country by allowing separate and disparate languages and cultures to grow like cancers.

It means we’ll suffer more Hmong refugees like Vang ‘human hunting’ last week in Wisconsin where he ‘bagged’ six human beings in an ugly killing spree. We’re legalizing or importing people from Third World countries who have no assimilation desire, respect or understanding of our laws.

We’ll suffer more attacks on our people such as the Muslim student last month at San Francisco State University who threatened to blow herself up. When one of the students asked her if she hated America, she screamed, "I would strap a bomb on myself and blow myself up as a suicide bomber rather than call myself an American…those terrorists are freedom fighters."

It means we’ll make citizens out of people who practice ‘santeria’ or animal sacrifice in city parks in Florida and along the East Coast. It means we’ll legalize people in our country that practice dog fighting, cock fighting and horse tripping. As their numbers grow, so will their voting power so they can vote their Third World rituals into law. It means that ‘female genital mutilation’ will become a norm as more adherents to that barbaric practice gain greater numbers by migrating into our country. It means the race riot at the Los Angeles high school last week will become the norm as are the riots at soccer matches in Third World countries. It’s called Third World Momentum. It’s gathering speed in our country.

It means, dear fellow American citizen, everything nasty, negative and ugly about the Third World will gain a greater foothold in America as Bush encourages it by amnesty and guest workers.

This human invasion occurs in France, Norway, Germany, England and Holland. It grows more pernicious and deadly by the day. Theo Van Gogh suffered death by stabbing last month in Holland for exposing Islamic brutality to wives. We can expect more of the same in America as their numbers grow.

Finally, Dutch spokesman Fennema said, "Alongside this immigration policy in Holland, there was also a policy of anti-racism, which made it difficult for people either to campaign to stop the immigration or to criticize the behavior of immigrants, or to air the feeling that we should remain, as Dutch people, masters in our own country."

Future historians will find it interesting that at the same time a supposedly conservative Bush has enmeshed us in foreign wars, he opened the floodgates to importing millions of enemies into America. President Bush’s first act upon reelection was to resurrect his proposal for an amnesty for illegal immigrants!

Much like what happened to Rome and is now happening to France, invasion by immigration easily can be more dangerous than invasion by a foreign army. At some point, the foreign army will go home. But immigrants stay, and when they do not acculturate, they permanently change the cultural landscape. As the Dutch recently discovered, the changes may go beyond introducing some highly spiced dishes (diversity) into deadly consequences. Too much diversity and multiculturalism destroy stable societies. The French, Norwegians, Brits and Germans stand in line for this invasion. Amazingly enough, it’s self-induced by their own leaders.

Astoundlingly, Congress and Bush self-inflict it upon us. America’s future stands at a deadly juncture. California is our Holland, Arizona our France, New Mexico our Germany, Texas our England. The rest of us are not far behind.
