WBZ'S David Brudnoy is saying good-bye to his friends. After living with AIDS for years, Davids cancer, merckle cell carcinoma has spread to his liver and kidneys and his prognosis at Mass General Hospital is not good.
All too often in the news business, its not good news we have to report and this is one of those stories. WBZ's Gary LaPierre had an extended conversation today with a very prominent member of our family here at WBZ, Dr. David Brudnoy.
David Brudnoy asked to have this conversation so that he, a nationally prominent radio talk show host, could say farewell to you... his listening public, his family.
Simply put and to the point, David Brudnoy is looking death straight in the eye today and is saying to his family... his listeners, Im ready. It was very apparent when I stepped into Davids room at the Mass General today that one of the giant survivors of this sometimes very unforgiving business is talking to his family thats you... for the last time.
10-years ago I talked to David, a mere skeleton of a man, fighting back from death by full-blown AIDS. This tough guy won.
A little more than a year ago, a deathbed struggle ensues again for David Brudnoy, merkel-cell carcinoma. He launched another 15 round battle with a rare deadly disease and won... until now. David told us today, he's losing this one. I asked him how its different this time.
David "it's gone below the waist. Its in the liver and kidneys."
While at times, struggling a bit for the breath to speak, David Brudnoy is always, the open book and I couldn't help by ask why, while standing at deaths door he wants to share it all.
David You go through a couple of days of that more pain pointless. No end.
Gary: What you are saying to continue would be just to continue your being for a few more days?
David: With morphine and a little oxygen and food. I am not starving myself. I am not asking my doctors to do anything illegal. I wish I could but they won't. I will make it through. My head is completely excepting of this. I am absolutely ready.
David Brudnoy, as only David could do it, gets the chance to say his final farewells to the world.
David: I think we in the media often times want everybody else to be frank about themselves but want to be covert about ourselves. My life is truly an open book.
Gary: It always has been.
David: It has been but more so as I contend with these diseases.
So tonight, he'll be heard in a bed-side interview with WBZ's Gary LaPierre in what will be his final farewell.
All of us here at WBZ have David Brudnoy in our thoughts and prayers today.
I don't think you are. You swapped your words for mine. It was patently dishonest. You knew it.
Have you ever listened to David Brudnoy? Or are you just posting out of severe ignorance?
He contracted the disease by engaging in homosexual behavior. I have sympathy for his innoncent victims, if there are any.
I agree completely. It was a pleasure to listen to David, both for his beautiful voice and his powerful intellect.
Yep. I was living in the Boston area when he first went public with his diagnosis of AIDS and was a regular listener of his show. You don't get much tougher than him and it's sad that his battle will end this way.
What else can he be posting out of? Anyone who's known his program is feeling a bit dimmer at this news.
Brudnoy has, as far as I know, committed no crime. He has sinned. His sins can be forgiven, should he ask in sincerity. God has instructed us to NOT make judgement on men's souls.("Judgement is mine, saith the Lord.") I refuse to pass spiritual judgement on Brudnoy's condition. That is between him and God.

af_vet_1981,
I do not support the homosexual lifestyle or agenda in any way, but I don't think we need to pile on the man. He was a man, he wasn't trying to be a hero or a celebrity (from what I know of him) He seemed fairly honest, I listened to him for many years and he was a thoughtful, articulate person. I did not always agree with him, but he did not wear his homosexual lifestyle on his sleeve. He made reference to it on occasion, but usually in discussing some facet of a current event. Give him a little peace on his way out. Nothing personal against you, just my opinion.
I was able to listen to him once in a while at night in the car radio here in Penna. He is a true gentleman.
You don't need to have listened to him. You don't need to "honor" him. In fact, you don't even need to know how he contracted AIDS. You also don't need to disparage someone who you don't know. But that's your choice. In my view, that diminishes you, not Dr. Brudnoy.
Would it surprise you to know that, if I had a choice of listening to him or to you, I would pick him in a heartbeat? Frankly, I don't think that you are qualified to discuss his situation.
Indeed, he was honored for it by local Boy Scouts of Boston. This was done on purpose, according to the local leader of the Scouts, Brock Bigsby, who told the Boston Globe he hopes that the choice of Brudnoy will end any confusion that the Boston group agrees with the national policy on homosexuals.
A.P. wrote that Brudnoy was invited to make it "crystal clear - that it [the local Council] opposes the ban on gay troop leaders."
Brudnoy informed the gathering that they told him, 'We want to signal through you, our nondiscrimination policy."
The Council also introduced a new "diversity awareness award badge," which includes homosexuality.
Give him a little peace on his way out.
Let him repent first.
There is no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked.
Go and sin no more.
Brudnoy told Reason magazine he got AIDS as the result of oral homosexual sex in the 1980s and was diagnosed with AIDS in 1988. He kept the news to himself until he collapsed in 1994 ...
It is clear to me that your hero infected other human beings.
I'm not surprised at all. One third of the country chooses to support the homosexual agenda.
You refer to Mr. Brudnoy in your posts as "your hero". Why is that? He certainly isn't my hero or the 'hero' of many who post here. I would guess that most of us disagree with his stance on many issues. But that is no reason to speak ill of him the way you do, in my opinion.
I vehemently disagree with his stance on the Boy Scouts, as an example. But I am not going to attack him personally for it. I am going to approach the issue the way we should, as Americans, through the lawful processes.
He is a flawed individual, but that does not mean he relinquishes his humanity because of his flaws. ( We only reserve that for Ted Kennedy here.)
No matter how you slice it, a man who contracted AIDS by his own wilful and deliberate sin is not a hero. And the hanging question is how many others did he infect ?
That is a rather cold reply, don't you think? I too believe that the homosexual lifestyle is a sin, but as people they too are made in the image and and likeness of God, and should therefore be treated with the same respect and dignity as any other member of the human race.
It is a shame that this man is suffering such a painful death, and it is even more tragic to think that it was brought upon himself through his own behavior, or that others will suffer the same fate because of him.
Again, I'm not defending this man's lifestyle, but we are all going to die in the same state: hoping for God's mercy and forgiveness. We are all sinners, let's not be so presumptuous as to put limits on God's ability to forgive, or presume that OUR sins can't possibly be judged as harshly as another's.
And I'm sure that you can provide proof for that accusation.
Perhaps you should just crawl back into your hole and let the man die in peace.
Do you think your ascerbic attacks on this man advances the pro-family agenda in any way? Could you consider that Christ forgave the thief on the Cross, at the last moment before death? Can you not find compassion in your heart?
Although I consider this man a sinner, I do not think Jesus would ask us to be so hateful to him in his present position.
Perhaps I have a faulty understanding of my faith, but I must simply disagree with your attacks on this man.
Uh, STFU.

This is about a man's dying; a man who a lot of Freepers have some feeling for. Go away.
Now
G-d has instructed us to judge his behavior. Some men, due to wilfulness, wickedness and hardness of heart, will not repent. Their notoriously evil behavior should be condemned and not honored in their death. Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour. When they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between one and another, and I do make them know the statutes of God, and his laws. And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him. And the man that will do presumptuously, and will not hearken unto the priest that standeth to minister there before the LORD thy God, or unto the judge, even that man shall die: and thou shalt put away the evil from Israel. If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, that the judges may judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked. If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.
