You don't need to have listened to him. You don't need to "honor" him. In fact, you don't even need to know how he contracted AIDS. You also don't need to disparage someone who you don't know. But that's your choice. In my view, that diminishes you, not Dr. Brudnoy.

Brudnoy was the poster boy for "Hate the sin, love the sinner". In his public life he was a man of absolute rectitude, he was open about his sexuality and one could accept it or not. He never apologized and never complained. He was a civil rights activist in the 1950's when it meant something. He was never a hypocrite and never small. And I will miss him and the World is better for his having graced it.
